for the 15 year anniversary. Was looking at Sandals in the Exuma Bahamas (prettiest water on the planet) but it's pretty pricey. Anyone have any good experiences in Mexico or the Dominican Republic? Both have nice beaches and are a lot cheaper.

Thanks. I'll check out that DR resort. I looked at secrets maroma. Looks like an awesome resort. The only complaint I've seen is people complaining about mosquitos. Not really a deal breaker for me. Mosquitos are a part of life in the south.

its a fairly common thing with resorts in the caribbean. I have a good bit of experience with these trips. I you need any advice or have any questions, I will be happy to help. Ive been going a few times per year now for about 15 years. Been all over. Let me know and I can answer by email.
Someone recommended the Excellence in DR. Very nice place. Highly recommend as well. Is on the west end of Punta Cana where the place I recommended is on the east end. The west end of the beach gets a little higher surf. The east end is a little more calm and clear.
A lot of these resorts have similar food and similar booze. Most times, the service is the big difference. You will never go wrong with Sandals but your going to pay a good bit more for it. There are places out there that offer the same service/food quality for less money.
For me, I do not like super crowded places so we pick our times carefully. Plus it helps with the price. We have some places that we have only been to once and some that we have visited as many as 6 times. Most of them are very consistent...

The Bavaro area of Punta Cana, DR is absolutely beautiful.
We stated at the Grand Bahia Principe on our honeymoon and have absolutely ZERO complaints.
Us and the inlaws are taking all the kids back this year before they all get gone to college.

This is very true, a lot of the resorts have similar food and drinks, and the biggest difference would be service. Having said that, some resorts may only have a couple of main restaurants, where as other may have a broader variety.
I'm also not a fan of the super crowded places, and like to stick with the hotels that are not quite as popular as say a Sandals(although it's still a great resort).
My vote is for Excellence, both the one on Isla Mujeres, and the one in Punta Cana(although they are building a second one in Punta Cana that looks awesome, we are booked for summer 2017 ).
You almost can't go wrong with most of the AI, however a big difference is whether or not it is adults only or not. We always choose adults only. Some of our friends didn't, and got bombarded with kids on summer break.

If you guys liked the Excellence, you really need to check out the Grand Bavaro. Very similar in service but not quite as crowded.
I have been to the Excellence in DR twice. I love the pool area in the back as well as they have a very nice Gym for a resort. Plus, I got pretty drunk at that "night club" twice and I think my name is on the wall.

We stayed in a condo in Puerto Aventuras on the Riviera Maya south of Cancun. Not all inclusive, but a very nice place.
Check out Villas Del Mar on VRBO. Pretty reasonable for what you get.

Just got back on Monday from the Hard Rock Punta Cana. It was pretty nice. Food wasn't spectacular but I guess that's to be expected for all inclusives. The beaches, pools, and actual physical resort were fantastic, though. Also the added bonus of having a casino and nice golf course on the resort. Also, night clubs and a lot of americanized restaurants. the service there was incredibly good.
There are tons of cheaper options in Punta Cana as well.

Agreed. We did el Dorado Royale last summer and I'll never do anywhere else on the Yucatan again.
Best vacation I ever had.

I did secrets maroma a few years ago. It's really really nice. Heads up on the hygiene of the infinity pools in the room though. Also my phone got blatantly stolen while we were out of the room for like 20 minutes so keep all your stuff hidden or on you.

Interesting. Thanks for that. I typically put my phone in the safe the first day I get to a resort and never take it out. LOL. I usually make zero phone calls.....
We have tried a few places in the Riviera but not here. A friend had recommended it that we trust. Looks like mid August for us.
Thanks again
