I started smoking them last year. I usually smoke one a week when it's cold outside.

What are your favorites?

I am a fan of Punch cigars. I have smoked a Rocky Patel and an Oliva over the past couple of weeks and they were pretty good too.

Any cigarillo recommendations? I've read that Davidoff makes some great ones.

ETA: I'm obviously not really an enthusiast but I'm trying to become more educated in this subject.

There are few things in this world I know better than cigars. I was in the industry for a lot of my adult life and spent time in Honduras because of it. Funny you mention Rocky Patel. I stayed at his house on a business trip back before his line went to the highest bidder.

Best cigar I ever smoked was a Cohiba in Cozumel when I was like 19 yo.

So I am no help to you..

That's awesome if serious.

100% serious. I have pictures of his place if you want to see sometime. It's absolutely incredible. And right across from shantytowns. It's truly a little eye-opening to see such wealth surrounded by the poorest poor I've ever seen. It didn't keep me from having a fantastic time but I never knew that everyone in Honduras was that fricking poor except for Rocky Patel. LOL.

To answer your question:

CAO had a few good lines going in the early 2000's but the father Cano checked out leaving the line to Eileen and her brother. Eileen married a dude out in Hollywood and the brother sold the company off, keeping the same name. quality went down and an affordable cigar got crossed off the list as very good every day smokes.

Oliva was a flash in the pan with their Master Blends line and then was rejuvenized with the Serie V line, to this day a fricking good thing to spend your time doing. Even that has fallen off though.

You can chase down dollar signs with any number of "untold story", "Opus" "Davidoff" (Though the millennium blend is almost the best fricking cigar ever made, it's the exception in this point) that people try to equate with being equally a good cigar.

Padron will never not be amazing, 64's in particular, but the cost is beyond through the roof....

..... BUT then there's the always faithful. The cigar that didn't jump in price when Congress went after tobacco 6 years ago. The one that was always the best from the beginning and never sold out to Altidis or General Cigar Co., or any other company that most brands ran to to get out of the Cigar industry.

The Ashton mother fricking VSG. The best mother fricking cigar to this day in the states. I'll take it over almost any other cigar in the world, save the occasional PSD4 or (a personal favorite, not much fanfare) H. Uppman, both the cuban version, not stateside version.

It was likely a genuine Cuban. I always bring a box back with me when I visit Mexico, peel off the labels before going through customs first though.

I'm actually about to get on a disney cruise with the family to the Bahamas, how do I know what the real Cubans look like( if they're sold in the Bahamas) im a novice but always wanted the real deal to see what they're about... Or could you give me any other tips or cigars to look for?

used to go to the cigar show in NYC years ago. 150.00 bucks and you basically got major samples of all the best brands. best restaurants in NY and best whiskies were on sample as well. Penthouse pets attended as well. :-)

Was awesome. However the suit I wore usually had to go into a plastic bag immediately and hit the dry cleaner before I even got home it smelled like cigars so bad.

Used to take customers and it was always great.

Was in the Bahamas last year and didn't see a real cuban the entire trip. Awful, awful fakes at that. Could've just been the week I was there but I wouldn't be surprised if that weren't the case.

Fake cubans are cheaper for them to buy than real cubans and they get the same price for them. Business wise, why would they stock anything other than the fakes? I'm talking about strictly touristy places (which is almost every place.) Their intention is to make money, the quality of everything else they sell is just as shitty, why would the cigars be any different?

If you buy a Cohiba Cuban, make sure the label says "Habanos S.A." and not "General Cigar Co."

There may or may not be some very, very reputable websites that have discrete shipping. I'm not sure about that though. I haven't used them time and time again with various other people over the course of the last 12 years, ensuring their fantastic quality and genuine product while also enjoying the safe and secure deliverly to my doorstep.

If a place like that really did exist it would be great that they're prices were reasonable and not gouged. Gouged prices being an indication that a store doesn't actually have a license to sell what they're claiming to sell, thus not being regulated, thus sending the price through the roof for their non-genuine product.

Hasnt the U.S. lifted some of the regulations on bringing Cubans back into the states?

Taking a Spring Break trip with some buddies in the next week or two. We are headed to Cozumel, Mexico. Any idea if I could get a quality cigar from there? I really want to see the fuss about them all.
