Let's get one thing straight regarding this confederate flag brouhaha

It's not a simple left vs. right debate. Seen folks on both sides who support flying it and support removing it from political seats respectively, but I also see a lot of folks resorting to lazy partisan narratives. Not calling out this board specifically, just something I've noticed online in response to recent events.
I'm as GOP as they come, but imho, the flag has no place being supported by modern-day political seats of power.
As always, private citizens should be free to fly what they want, be it the battle flag or nazi flags or anything else that's questionable. No skin off my nose.

This. I don't see how anyone could disagree.

Tbird, you are only allowed to discuss race, politics, Spurs, and Dr. Pepper in threads started by others that include titles like "Tbird, what do you think/feel about........"

Tbird is absolutely right. The flag has no business in or around or on top of government buildings. The Confederate flag is treasonous. However individual citizens should be able to buy and display any flag they want to.

I agree. And I'm to the right of Genghis Khan. The issue has had the unfortunate effect of stirring the radical leftist culture warriors to battle. But I figure they had to be right at least once in their lives and I assume this is it.

I agree with removal from political seats of power, but just want to clarify 'supported' by political seats of power.
How do you feel memorials, cemeteries, and battlefields?

I would be fine with them just removing it from the Capitol if I believed that's all they want to do.
But it's not.

But truth is truth. And it's powerful.
You don't lose anything by pointing out truth. Even if it agrees with your ideological opponent in that moment. The true believer Leftists will never be able to agree with truth if it doesn't further their aims.

Good thing you posted this here and not the poli board. You'd have 100's of downvotes by those extremists.

Pretty much agree with tBird.
I like the flag for the simple reason that it represents a region I grew up in. I dont fly it. I dont have any symbols of it on my car or home. However, when I see it I just think "southern". I dont associate it with racism, though others do.
For that reason, I see no reason for it to fly in any governmental area or building because the government is supposed to represent ALL the people. If it serves a divisive purpose then its counter to what we need to be about. Just my opinion.

I'm good with this.

I don't have a problem with them taking it down, but the motivation behind it troubles me. The fact that the social justice warriors just decided to use a tragic mass murder as a launching point for taking down the flag is unfortunate, because people will forever associate that shooting with white southern racism and how it brought about some huge change in this Neanderthal segment of society.
Mostly, I just hate that the easily offended and political opportunists got their way and won.

Here is the rub, historical sites and monuments are typically publicly owned and maintained, although sometimes with private funds. I dont agree with removing it from these locations, but do agree with removing it from any other public facility that doesnt fall under these. And I dont see how its been up at any other institutions for so long any how
