Working on my 4th. If you've never had them, picture pissing a razorblade while having extreme nausea at the same time lasting 3-4 days without letting up. Anyone got any good treatments other than the standard water drinking?

God's punishment for us having to have the younguns.

Just kidding. Sorta.

Probably warrants a trip to the ER, honestly. Unless you have a Urologist, which judging by your past med hx you probably do.

If so, give him/her a call. Phenergan or Zofran will help with nausea and if you're opposed to pain meds, something called a beta- blocker can be rx. Usually used for hypertension, but a side effect that is particularly useful with stones is that beta blocker's relax the ureter and make it easier to pass the stone. Otherwise, increasing your fluids and otc pain meds is pretty much it.

Good luck.

This is one of my greatest fears.

It's why I drink mostly water throughout my day with some orange juice, milk, and Muscle Milk for workouts. I never drink soda or really sugary juices. I haven't had a Kidney stone yet but I'm only 21. =/

Luckily, I'm a pretty healthy guy. I stay on a fairly healthy diet, I don't smoke or drink alcohol frequently, and I get plenty of exercise. It seems like I NEVER get sick. It's pretty awesome. So hopefully I can avoid Kidney stones. I don't want to imagine the pain of a solid material passing through my urethra.

It usually genetic (or seems to be). If your old man didn't have them, you'll probably be fine. Last MRI a few years ago showed 3 more rattling around my left kidney. Nothing much to do except wait until you get nailed.

I hate kidney stones. I have had three and have two more the doctor told me were to big to pass and I'll need treatment to break them up then another stent. Worst week of my life the last time I had the stent in. I just ate pain killers like candy.

I had a very small one in college, pain only lasted an hour or so before it passed. It wasn't AWFUL, but it definitely felt like my flank/groin was on fire.

Wrong. Lithotripsy. Get 'em now before they get you.

Take the resident nurse's advice.
I wouldn't steer y'all wrong.

The one I had was lodged... pissed blood pain free for a couple weeks lol. A few days before my procedure to break it up my dad gave me some herbal remedy shite, stone buster or some shite. Stone was not there when they went back in to oblate it. I was a bit pissed I unnecessarily underwent this procedure. You ain't living until you've pissed a clot large enough to shut off all flow

I've got nothing to help. If you're a Friends fan, maybe this will make you laugh.

Been there, done that. Had one so big they had to go up in there and bust it up and pull the big pieces out.

Carolina Girl ... you know Mike Stotzer by chance? He's my urologist. My wife is in love with him.

Can't say that I know him off the top of my head but I'm more than certain that were our paths to cross it'd be one of those "AHA!!" moments

And now you got me all curious about this urologist......

Those have nothing to do with kidney stones.

Also has nothing to do with kidney stones.

Muscle Milk

Excess protein in one's diet can be a contributing factor.

Don't get fat and don't add salt to your meals. You should be fine for life.

Yeah ... all the women call him Dr. McDreamy. I told him about that and we got a kick out of it.

Very intelligent guy though. Ivy League. Was a GP, then an Internist before becoming a surgeon and a urologist at a very young age. One of those Doogey Houser types, except tall, athletic, funny. He just hit 50 though, seems young to me but he's gained a little weight, has to wear glasses now, cuts his hair shorter ... great guy, regular type to be so accomplished. No God Complex whatsoever. A lot of my doctor buddies have issues with that complex ... especially my surgeon buddies.

That doesn't make a shite, I promise.

I had 3 stones 4 years ago. Work out daily. Drink only water or juices. 2 cups of coffee in the morning. Eat a well balanced diet. Don't have much dairy intake. Still got them.

3 months ago, I had 3 more. This time, they came with vicious vomiting. Still the same diet, but I'm probably more active now than I was. I'm not over weight. Still drink water and juice and low dairy intake(maybe a glass of milk a week, very little cheeses).

I do not wish them on anyone. I have a very high pain tolerance and they killed me.

+1 for lithotripsy

I had 2 in my left kidney. Way too large to pass. Found them from an MRI at the emergency room. Went to a urologist and scheduled the lithotripsy. Had the J stent put in afterwards and was pissing sand bits for a month.

Before I had some small ones that got stuck in the left ureter. I had so much pain that I vomited.
