So, it's apparently against the law to hire employees who show up for work and don't complain about their terrible job.

Mexican Privilege?

quote:

Pilgrim's Pride is under fire after the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) filed two lawsuits accusing the company of discriminatory hiring practices.

In a complaint filed Sept. 15, the department's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) alleges Pilgrim's Pride "systematically discriminated" against qualified African American, Caucasian and female applicants for entry-level laborer and operative jobs at its Athens poultry plant, which closed in 2009.

I haul frozen chicken from Pilgrim's Pride in Russelville,Alabama sometimes. I have never seen a Mexican working there.

It is for a fact, a terrible job, I wouldn't want to work there. I don't know how people do that everyday for years.

There is one place that I pick up at in North Carolina, that is actually a Perdue Chicken plant. All the Employees there are Black, but the company doesn't even provide a break room for them, they don't even have a microwave available. They have to eat their lunch outside, wherever they can find a place to sit down. not even tables or anything. That's a damn shitty place to work right there.

I wonder if it was just attrition.

I work in the service industry and our bottom end jobs skew Hispanic - and not because of any heavy handed hiring practices. It's just that the Hispanics stick it out where the native born employees quit after three weeks.

There are no Hispanic people in Franklin County yet. This plant was one in Athens that shut down.

It could be, but it wouldn't surprise me if they targeted Hispanic hires.

It is likely discriminatory, but it's also absolutely true that you stand a much better chance of not turning over the position every couple of weeks in a job like that if you weed out the US born candidates (who are almost all either white or black).

If there are people there who utilize guns, knives, and/or nuclear and/or chemical and/or biological weapons to force those people to work there then we need to get not only The National Guard but The U.S. Marine Corps involved. Otherwise it sounds like The American Dream. The Texas Dream for certain. And I could not feel opposed to it.

If they don't like working there then they can refuse to work there. God Bless God. And ALL that.

Seriously.

It's the simplest answer - and it makes sense.

Well, it is pretty much the only job available in that area. I am just of the opinion, that a huge arse company like Perdue could put forth a bit more effort to make their employees feel more appreciated.

Say what you want, that shite is pretty damn inconsiderate. It gets pretty cold and messy there in the winter, and hot as hell in the summer, and stinks like a cess pool. Flies everywhere.

I am pretty sure that type of treatment gets reflected in employee attitude, and since the product is food,it's bad for all of us.
