Its not a nice beach because of all the silt from the Mississippi that drifts west in the Gulf. Therefore people with money travel to the nicer beaches. So it shouldn't be much surprise.

Galveston does indeed suck but I've seen worse in LA and Mississippi.

Very few match the nastiness of Galveston.. but if I lived on the south side of Houston I'd utilize it because a beach is a beach

It's bad, but Padre is worse.

Ugly water, good fishing. Works for me.

Ship Island on the south side isn't bad. It's the best beach off the MS coast, and the island is actually pretty cool with Ft. Massachusetts there. Gulfport/Biloxi beaches are man-made, the water there sucks.

Nope not by a long shot, the Mississippi River silt is carried over to Galveston on the Gulf Stream and makes the water muddy but overall it isn't that bad. The beaches on the upper East Coast suck what with all the medical waste and sewage that they contain.

I lived in Houston for two years and never considered going there.

Happy to be back in Miami and family is in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, so no desire to even check it out.

Nobody goes to Texas for vacation, much less vacation at the beach.

Galveston looked like it was probably a popular place 50-60 years ago, but the beach area looked distressed when I was there around 2002. There is a cool aviation museum and aquarium though.

There are some nice spots on the west end, away from the crowds.

Great bars and shopping along The Strand. I like Galveston, but agree that the beach sucks.

Worst is hard to quantify, but Galveston and Panama City are by far the trashiest that I've ever seen.
