LSU, meanwhile, is taking the opposite approach. SAD.
LSU was doing the same a few yrs ago. I helped get LSU materials to my daughter's high school in Bethesda, MD.

Absolutely, and you can see that unfolding on UA's campus right now. Hopefully those investments will pay off.

Stanford, etc keeps enrollment down, and they have excess funds for research, etc. The problem with us is both state schools have tiny endowments, which puts us behind the curve.
This is true, but I think the line of thought is that once enrollment reaches its saturation point in the next 5-10 years, you can start being increasingly selective, as the demand will even further outpace the allowable supply of incoming students.

We need to slow the hell down. We've grown to damn fast. My kid can't the classes he needs and the ones he did get has 250-300 students.
And it takes a month to see his advisor. Need to drop about 7,000 yankees. I'm a double grad if you are wondering eng/mba. We had 17,000 when I went. They had 19,000 10 years ago. Now 37k. Its crazy.

The only classes you'll ever have with 250-300 students are level 100 classes. My biggest class this year is MC 401 with 60 students. The rest of my classes have at least 25-30.
I have no trouble seeing my advisor. It may take him a day or two to respond, but that's expected because he teaches throughout the day.

If we're successful in becoming a regional version of Michigan or UT-Austin, the increased value of our degrees will be worth the growing pains, IMO. Obviously there are downsides to rapid growth, some of which you point out above, but I don't think they outweigh the positives.

At least two from Maryland.
Don't know if already mentioned but Fall semester last year there were pretty substantial network issues as the IT infrastructure had not kept up with the growth. From my understanding it was corrected pretty quickly.

Ole Miss is mostly out of state as well and has been for a few years I believe.
Ole miss is high but I think Mississippians make up about 60-65% still.

I think they have maintained the same actual number of Alabamians, total enrollment has dramatically increased
Is the population of Alabama increasing?

Your kid isn't trying that hard.

Not really. The gradual growth is almost undetectable. Hopefully that starts to change soon.

Dang p, don't out the kid, he's enjoying campus life.

Well that's where it seems sort of dumb to keep taking out of state kids, since they'll probably leave the state once they've graduated. You're not leveraging the increased enrollment to strengthen your state, you're strengthening others.

There is another post from earlier that addresses a possible strategy.

Hmm, when I was there I thought one of the numbers was like 53% OOS.
Maybe I'm wrong.
