And not to be outdone, Alabama has it's own protest group with a list of demands now. I especially like #2..
quote:

Its second demand is that the University remove the names of white supremacists, Klansman, Confederate generals and Eugenicists from classroom buildings or create markers to show the history of racism the buildings' namesakes are associated with.

And #9...
quote:

Its ninth demand is that the University provides a permanent safe space for students of color in the Ferguson Student Center.

Here is the article with the full list:
We Are Done demands

It's everywhere!

I fail to see the problem here. Except for the Confederate generals, buildings named after white supremacists, Klansmen and Eugenicists have no business on a college campus.

What's wrong with this one?

I agree that the "safe space" thing is ridiculous though.

The generals part is what got me. You can't erase history, just learn from it. The others I can see the issue with.

I'm curious though, how many buildings on the campus are named for white supremacists, Klansmen and Eugenicists? Is this really a problem?

I also find it ironic that it's the Ferguson Student Center.

I guess the concern about the Cofederate Generals struck a chord with me. The group on Mizzou's campus doesn't like the statue of Thomas Jefferson because they feel he was a racist. Perhaps he was. But he was an enlightened man for his time, and nothing will change the fact that Mizzou has a tie with Jefferson. In my view, trying to erase history is a very short-sighted, narrow minded way of looking at an issue. History should be studied and lessons learned from it.

They might be appeased if those halls and buildings were named after "do what you want" Satanists.
Face it Shaft, college kids want the world to burn so they can bring forth their utopia that their teachers have been preaching. They want one world government and to make everything "even". Cause, to them, everything has to even out. They don't teach basic economics anymore. "There is no free lunch." We're doomed.

How do you know where to pick the poop up if you're blind and can't see where the dog shite at? Heightened sense of smell? Feel around on the ground until you locate the pile? The dog alerts to the mound of shite?

We can tell there are serious problems at these universities because so many people say there are.

So students should get a safe place at the Ferg, but only students of color are allowed? How is this fixing any fricking racism at all? What a bunch of hypocritical bull shite. You can just bet Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are just jizzing all over themselves right now.

Safe Space...aka Cry Room?

Also, when we get to the point of all people of color have a special privileged room...then can a white male individual claim discrimination? I want a cool video game room or whatever the space room is.

Then why do you support removing the names of white supremacists?

Take out your tampon and try again Nancy. If they don't like the names of buildings, they can leave. No one is forcing these people to attend college.

The buildings they refer to are Morgan Hall and Nott Hall. Morgan is named after JT Morgan, who was a Confederate general and later a high ranking Klansman. He also was a US senator instrumental in strengthening the US by leading the charge to annex the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii and by lobbying for the Panama Canal. He also got the government to pay reparations to UA for the Union having senselessly burned down the campus. Josiah Clark Nott was a leading scientist who discovered that Malaria and Yellow Fever were carried by insects, helping immensely in the quest to cure them. Like all scientists in his period, he was a scientific racist and eugenicist.

All of this to say that the problem is that these people, like everyone, were morally ambiguous and that it is silly to judge people of the past using modern day conceptions of morality, which are totally subjective and always changing.
