lol

My family has resided in the same place since the 1790s. I've heard folk talkes, local legends, local music, and eaten local food.

Just because we don't speak French doesn't mean we don't have any sense of native belonging or uniqueness.

I grew up in Petal, and OG was our biggest rival. I played on the baseball team for Petal. Man, those were some fun games between the two teams.

I have no ties to either place, but know about the rivalry. A guy I work with has kids at petal high and he played baseball for them back in the day (in his early 40's)

you probably know the family if you're from petal

It's quite easy, if you know how to look. Y'all don't have a monopoly on cultural development.

Being my wife and mom, dad and two brothers are from there. Plus the fact that my father in law has a house on dauphin island ( 39 years fishing) and house camp in washington county(best deer hunting) for 39 years, i would say that all gets an A+ for Alabama.. Best years of my life was spent on a lot of trips over there. But born and raised in louisiana i have to say i love it in this state. I almost got my arse beat alot of times when i would watch ala/auburn with her family. Especially walking in with a lsu sweatshirt and rooting for the wrong team. 50/50 on who her relatives rooted for. Hell they would beat each others asses before the game was over drinking moonshine uo the country as they say. True story

I was raised in Orlando. I like to joke that the fact I'm not a douchebag with too much gel in my hair, is an overcoming adversity story.

"Up the country" was their saying. Hillbilly talk for going to the hunting woods and hillbilly heaven. They do not sit in chairs they squat against the wall. Fun people though.

north Alabama.

Edit: or maybe even Wedowee area. We rented a house on the lake there this summer and were really impressed.

Notice how I haven't been condescending to your cultural upbringing?

Maybe you should try that out. You might actually make some e-friends ;)

It amazes me how dumb people from Alabama are.

Hawaii beaches
Florida beaches
California beaches
Carolina beaches
Massachusetts beaches

But yeah, Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are way better...

I'd take Orange Beach over the Carolina beaches every day of the week. Coastal Living ranks it as one of the Top 20 beaches in America. And by looking at all the Louisiana trash that find their way there during Spring Break and Summer, I'm surprised you don't agree.

Hell, I took this picture myself about two weeks ago while visiting my wife's family...

I currently reside in oak grove just outside of Hattiesburg, MS which as far as shite to do goes, is one of the better cities in the state.

Other than being relatively close to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast I would say Hattiesburg doesn't have much to do unless you are a student at USM. Other than Colton Blue or the Purple Parrot, the restaurant selection sucks and any idea of mature nightlife is nonexistent. Now Oak Grove and Petal are good areas to raise a family.

I would say the best areas in Mississippi are North Jackson (Fondren, Ridgeland and Madison), Oxford, the Gulf Coast and Olive Branch and then Hattiesburg. Once you get outside of those areas Mississippi is a rural wasteland.

I haven't either, but I see you took it that way. If you haven't lived there, then you cannot possibly understand what Im talking about and I understand that. You folks think that everything that you do is superior to all else because of college football. I'm just telling you, that you are wrong in this one area. Get mad about it, but it is the truth. Put another decal on your car and have a great day.
