Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
'Til there are no rich no more

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, No none for me

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Oh yeah!

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Senators stop the war

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

This is the first thing I thought of when I read the topic line (also from 1971):

I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing

Cowboys and outlaws, right guys and southpaws
Good dogs and all kinds of cats
Dirt roads and white lines and all kinds of stop signs
But I stand right here where I'm at
'Cause I wear my own kind of hat.

There's two kind of lovers and two kind of brothers
And two kind of babies to hold
There's two kind of cherries and two kind of fairies
And two kind of mothers I'm told, and told.

Cowboys and outlaws, right guys and southpaws
Good dogs and all kinds of cats
Dirt roads and white lines and all kinds of stop signs
But I stand right here where I'm at
'Cause I wear my own kind of hat.

exactly what i thought of too- i'd like to buy the world a coke. then this below came to mind:

Ooh-oo child
Things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child
Things'll get brighter
Ooh-oo child
Things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child
Things'll get brighter
Some day, yeah
We'll get it together and we'll get it all done
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter
Ooh-oo child
Things are gonna be easier
Ooh-oo child
Things'll get be brighter
Ooh-oo child
Things are gonna be easier
Ooh-oo child
Things'll get be brighter

Some day, yeah
We'll get it together and we'll get it all done
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter

Things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child
Things'll get brighter
Ooh-oo child
Things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child
Things'll get brighter
Right now, right now
(You just wait and see how things are gonna be)

He must be a cool dude.

I was 19 when that song came out. To most of us, conservative young people at the time .... that song was our song, different lyrics than most of the Woodstock stuff of the day. And I'd dare say they were as big or bigger than anyone at Woodstock.

That song had a different meaning for a lot of us - we wanted to change things for the better, but not the radical way most of the sixties radical crowd wanted it changed.

And we did. We changed a lot of things for the better .... we just weren't standing on podiums screaming the far left radical mantra - we changed things on our level, without needing credit for anything.

It has cost us apparently.
