Political figures don't talk this way anymore. Explaining to children that tragedies will happen, and nothing changes, we move forward. Was listening to JFK too, I wish my generation had presidents that speak this way.

The greatest line in that speech was at the end.

Not talking about his or others politics. Just that we used to be talked to differently by our leaders. More straightforward, more inspiring, less sugar-coating.

I didn't realize how tall JFK was until I was flipping through the insert of a Harry Belafonte album yesterday and there was a picture of him towering over Harry.

Reagan had a fantastic speech writer named Peggy Noonan who wrote that speech. With her and Peter Robinson he really did have some great writers on staff.

Plus he is an actor. He should be able to deliver some good lines. That a side, watching the Challenger coverage is one of my earliest memories.

That as well. I think it's just as simple though as it's a lost art these days. I don't know that there's been a really good speechwriter in the White House for awhile now. At least not one that really stands out. Most of the folks in those kinds of fields end up leaning towards screenwriting instead.

Politicians today don't talk to the people, they talk at them. Too, they are so afraid to offend any voter that they say nothing at all, they just spout some drivel that never has any substance. At least W was entertaining with his made up words and butchered cliches.

Reagan loved the USA.
He flexed our muscle against foreign threats.

He created a successful economy after a very very bleak period. He essentially resurrected this nation from the abyss. We need another Reagan to clean up Obama's mess.
