Not very many, Grant, Sherman owned more slaves than all Southerners together.

Learn History people, Northern Indulistrist wanted all the Cotton produced in n the U S, then tax Southern States for goods produced in n the North.

The Northern Powers to be wanted the South to stop selling Cotton to Great Britian.

Blacks should shut Sharpton up, get Educated, stop having Children out of wedlock, stop killing people (what percentage of America is black and what percentage of blacks are in prison)

Facts are Facts.

Something like 95% of slaves were owned by about 5%.

Just as the American Revolution was not fought over taxation, as we're told.

The Civil War was not fought over slavery, as we're told.

The confederates had a draft. People fought because they were legally required to. They faced imprisonment or execution for deserting.

I don't think most people realize that the rebels had a draft. They have this mystical idea of their great-great grand pappy picking up a deer rifle and joining the fight to defend his home.

A large portion of blacks especially the educated, can't stand Sharpton & Jesse Jackson. They are viewed as frauds who are only out stir controversy to line their own pockets. Not only that, the powers that control the media continue to give this buffoon a platform to speak from. Why don't you give those media outlets a call & tell them to shut him up.

Maybe you should take your own advice first.

stop having Children out of wedlock

I'm glad to know that this is an issue only among black folk.

stop killing people

Again, I'm glad to know that blacks are the only race on the face of the planet who commit murders. You learn something new everyday.

I just posted this in another thread but it deserves to be mentioned in this shitastic thread.

quote:

At this point, it's almost a cliché to declare "There are more black men in jail than in college." I've heard it my entire life—from adults, friends, politicians, and assorted pundits. When he was just a presidential candidate, then-Senator Barack Obama told the NAACP that "We have more work to do when more young black men languish in prison than attend colleges and universities across America."

It's a great soundbite. But it isn't true. As Howard University professor Ivory Toldson shows in a story for The Root, the original report on black male college enrollment—the Justice Policy Institute's "Cellblocks or Classrooms," first published in 2001—is far out of date. "If we replicated JPI's analysis," writes Toldson, "we would find a 108.5 percent jump in black male college enrollment from 2001 to 2011. The raw numbers show that enrollment of black males increased from 693,044 in 2001 to 1,445,194 in 2011."

By contrast, of the estimated 2 million inmates held in state or federal prison—or local jails—841,000 are African American men. To be fair, those numbers are from 2009. Toldson provides a more direct comparison using data from the National Center for Education Statistics, the Census Bureau's American Community Survey and the Department of Justice's statistics on prison enrollment:

In 2009, the DOJ's most recent year for data on prison populations, there were more than 150 percent more black males in college than incarcerated. Given the declining prison presence of African Americans—incarceration rates fell sharply between 2000 and 2009, and remain on a downward slope—and the growing presence of blacks in higher education, the difference between the two populations is likely larger.

It varied from place to place but usually between 1/3 and 1/2 of Southern families owned slaves according to census records.

Around 90% of slaveholders held fewer than twenty, and 50% held fewer than five.

So while it was fairly common, it was the plantations where you'd find alot of slaves. No surprise that concentrated slave ownership led to concentrated political power.

No they didn't. I've already destroyed Stonehog on this bullshite.

Now, almost half of Mississippi families owned slaves, (I know, shocking ). But other than that, that 1/2 claim is false.

Why was the American Revolution fought?

It was fought over currency.

We were making money interest free. This wasn't cool with the London overlords.

Ben Franklin:

“That is simple. In the Colonies, we issue our own paper money. It is called ‘Colonial Scrip.’ We issue it in proper proportion to make the goods and pass easily from the producers to the consumers. In this manner, creating ourselves our own paper money, we control its purchasing power and we have no interest to pay to no one.”

“The Colonies would gladly have borne the little tax on tea and other matters had it not been the poverty caused by the bad influence of the English bankers on the Parliament, which has caused in the Colonies hatred of England and the Revolutionary War.”

John Twells, English historian:

“It was the monetary system under which America’s Colonies flourished to such an extent that Edmund Burke was able to write about them: ‘Nothing in the history of the world resembles their progress. It was a sound and beneficial system, and its effects led to the happiness of the people.’”

And the Union took people right off the boat and put them in uniform.

Think before you speak.
