Corll was also known as the Candy Man and the Pied Piper, because he and his family had owned and operated a candy factory in Houston Heights, and he had been known to give free candy to local children.
Has anyone else heard about this fascinating and revolting story, because I never had until the other night.
I'm a fan of true crime, and was listening to a podcast when the detective happened to mention this guy who had tortured, raped and killed 28+ boys aged 13 to 20 from 1970-1973. I was shocked, because that's a ton of murders (the most at the time in US history before Gacy), and I'd never heard this guys name before and I'm from Texas.
Anyway, I started searching online and came across this well done article from Texas Monthly published back in April of 2011. It's lengthy, fascinating and heartbreaking.

Wiki entry - for those that don't want to commit to the article
I thought some might be interested in this story, and was curious about whether or not others were aware of this killer. I hadn't been born yet, but I know there are some older folks on the board.

I had never heard of him, good article. Truly bizarre that this guy has been forgotten by history.

my FIL is retired Houston Homicide. He knows about the Candy Man.
He did help capture the Mexiacan Rail Car killer guy right before he retired.
I'll never forget he said that Homicide was the easiest gig for a cop; all the action is already over and the crimes are usually that of passion/rage and thusly easy to solve. He said the things that kept them up at night were the serial killers. Houston, hell, any big city probably has 10-20 serial killers walking the street at any given time. They just haven't been on the radar yet. :
The man ran a background check on me before I had met him but he slipped and asked me something about something that hadn't been shared yet. I told him it wasn't nice to run a check on me and to this day he will deny it happened but it sure as hell did.
If I had the means to check my daughter's future suitors you'd bet your arse I would.

Yep, I read up on the Dean Corll and accomplice murders after somebody posted it here over a year ago. One of the most horrendous crime sprees in American history.

Dahmer was a little worse than both.
