my wife has had a fitbit charge for a while that i got her around Christmas time and i finally decided to get one this weekend. i have never been much of a watch wearer (i don't do expensive watches, knives, or sunglasses because i lose/break them often.) also the apple watch is coming out and it appears we are going to go full tilt dick tracy in life now. i just can't see myself ever needing to be THAT connected.

that being said i got a garmin vivosmart and have been super impressed with the fitness part of it. it also has some cool features as far as notifications. not like talking into the watch, but let me know who's calling, texting, emailing, etc.

Fitbit seems pretty cool, but unless you're getting the surge, it just seems like just too little of a face to get good data that i'd want from a watch, but the fitness/pedometer is fine.

Nope. I make it a point to not become dependent on technology.

the samsung gear looked pretty legit, but i don't have a samsung phone, so it seemed obsolete to me.

Obviously you're not very technology-savy. If you've read many of the articles presented of Reddit, you'd realize the dangers of corporate America using wearable technology to sell your personal information to Egyptian death cults.

I wear my brain, everyday.

It tells me all kinds of useful things about my body.

Those gadgets don't do much for me, but I don't look down on people who like/use 'em.

Whatever keeps folks motivated to get in better shape, I'm all for

honestly though as I said not long ago on the TD tech board when I was thinking about getting a smart watch, I don't think the tech I want is in the current smartwatches.

I may get one of those three smart watches I listed above, but I plan on waiting for the tech to improve enough so a smartwatch offers what I want. which is gps capable, accurate heart rate reader, android wear capable, waterproof, and wireless music(pandora, spotify, google play etc) to headphones. I'm not aware of a current smartwatch that offers all that.

Hell no. I have seen many people wearing these things and not a single one that I can see any results from wearing them. Maybe you have to do more than wear them, maybe you can do the same without wearing anything. But go ahead and hand over your money, many many do and will continue to.

the surge's cost point was too much for me for what it offered. the microsoft band looks pretty awesome, but it honestly was a little more than i want or need. i don't think i'm ready to have siri or cortana on my watch at this point, but maybe as the tech evolves.

This is what i ended up getting.

steps, calories, notifications, a watch, and most importantly, a silent alarm so i can get up at 4 AM without pissing off my wife. that was all i was aiming for really.

I'm waiting for this.

Doesn't have to be a tiny arm band. I'd use one of those QB sized arm bands too, as long as it was cold out, no one would know you had it.
