My wife's uncle has a beach house on Grand Isle, LA. We went there for our honeymoon and it was a blast. Even though we were there when the BP oil spill happened, still had a great time. We are talking about going during Labor Day weekend and relaxing again. How is the isle during that time?

Well, Labor Day is traditionally the last big weekend of the summer for beaches all over the place--so it seems like Grand Isle should be similarly effected by it--but I've never been to GI on that particular weekend, so I can't say for certain how GI is effected by it. In terms of tourists there, I think that the Tarpon Rodeo is the really big weekend there when GI's population swells by 10 times to 15,000 (late July), and then they also have a bird-watching festival in late April. I went there for Mardi Gras once--nice little parade and it wasn't over-run with tourists. LSU has a home game on Labor Day weekend, so it may shrink the crowds at Grand Isle some. You may want to post a thread on the other, LSU off-topic board as many of those posters probably have camps at GI.

You should go down this weekend... Take part in the Black & Gold Classic (look it up), it is put on by my good friend Stan Brock ( a Saints great ) there will be a few NFL players from past and present, live music, food, drinks, fishing tournament, rifle clay shooting and riffles and more. All of the proceeds will go to the Navy Seal and Green Beret foundations. It is annual, its a great time for a great cause!

Labor Day weekend there will be quite a few people on the island, but not nearly as over run as it is on Tarpon Rodeo weekend, which is July 23 thru July 26 this year. The Black and Gold Classic is this weekend - May 15 & 16. They're still finding tar ball on the beach occasionally, so if by chance you see one, don't pick it up and handle it, it could have contaminants on it and the vibrio bacteria on it.

That's awesome.

I love Grand Isle. A couple of my buddies had camps down there growing up.

We sure thought we were awesome, at 18 or 19, spending a week at the camp drinking beer and boiling crabs every night.

But my god, I bet if I walked into the sports bar right now I would throw up.
