Just moved to Columbia for work for a couple of months and don't know anyone or anything about this place. I need a decent place to eat and watch the Lightning game near campus/Five Points. Any recs?

So many amazing places in the Vista. The obvious one in Cola you'll hear is Grouchos. It's pretty good.

Salty Nutt and Pauly's both have great burgers. Hunter Gatherer is really good too, but no tv. If you can, go to the Vista's though, there are a lot of good options down there

Ended up dropping by Grouchos. It was just what I needed for lunch. Watched some of the Bolts game and ended up exploring Columbia. The campus and the neighborhoods just around the campus are really nice to walk through and I like the way the university fits into the city. It's a little quiet today and yesterday so I assume summer session hasn't started for USC yet? Everything's nice, but holy shite is your football stadium far. I ended up walking down by the IPF and athletic complex and realized how far of a walk it is. Ended up going down there to walk around the stadium and everything's under construction/not visitor friendly. Couldn't really tell what they were building but I dig the huge photo of tGOAT coach

tl,dr: SC is a nice place and :csb:

For my two Ole Miss baws

Yeah it's every bit of 2 miles. Getting back from the stadium after a night game is a struggle

Cola is very nice. Traffic isn't that bad either unless you're heading East on 26 to get to Harbison/Greenville anytime after 6am

Welcome to Colatown ... Brick City ... the birthplace of the war against Northern Aggression and the home to too many great Americans to try listing here in one thread.

Plenty of great places to eat from The Vista down to Five Points and plenty of places in-between down Main Street.

On which end of town will you be working most days?

And yes, we're growing the campus out towards the stadium ... one day it will be an on campus stadium.

The work you see going-on around the stadium is going to be incredible when finished. Basically a beautification project.

I doubt this is the kind of place you want, but I miss the fried chicken at zestos.

I still eat the chicken fried steak there once or twice a month.

Are we having fun yet? (Yesterday's motto since the mid '70s.)

Out west of the city in Lexington County, but I got a nice place for a good deal in the city and I wanted to take in the SC culture while I was up here.

I won't be here in the Fall, but I'll have to make the trip up to see when she's nice and pretty when the Gators roll through. Hopefully we don't shite the bed at the end like last year and finally start beating you bastards again

Always nice to see a complimentary post about Columbia on this site. It gets unfairly bashed on here too often.

It has been a few years since I've lived in Columbia, but a nice little hidden gem is Thirsty Fellow Pizzeria and Pub on Gadsden. It has probably grown in popularity, but the food is good, they have a nice beer selection, and they show a variety of sports. Overall a friendly atmosphere. That would be my recommendation.

Yesterday's and Goatfeathers are always on my list of eateries whenever I'm back in town. Not entirely positive if Goatfeathers is still in business... Village Idiot is a fun joint for a pretty decent pizza, too. And if you just want to gorge on BBQ, Palmetto Pig isn't the area's best, but you can get meatdrunk for under $10.

Columbia has some very pretty parts of town, and the actual heart of USC's campus is beautiful. The stadium is quite a ways off-campus, but I actually always liked that when I was in school. Kept all of the drunks and football fans segregated from the rest of the campus, so that come Sunday afternoon when it was time to go the library, the whole campus wasn't destroyed.

The secret is definitely out on Thirsty Fellow.. that place was there all 4 years of undergrad and I'd never been. Then one day last year I randomly went on a week night and it was packed.
