First time going, I figured some of the Texas baws in here and other SEC brethren that have been could steer me in the right direction while in the city.

Also, what restaurants do you recommend?

You can go see The Alamo while you are at The Riverwalk but tame your expectations bc most come away unimpressed.

Schlitterbahn water parks is supposedly really nice. They also have a Six Flags there.

There is Sea World.

Welcome to the Countdown City

If you've never been here before, hit up the Riverwalk. If you have a lady accompanying you, do a Riverboat tour (especially during the evening when it cools off). Eats/cervesas aplenty along there. Very touristy, but not a bad time.

Visit the Alamo if you're into history. Not a whole lot there but it's still cool to experience. You can do a bike tour of the missions, but I haven't done that myself yet.

Highly recommended a meal in the restaurant at the Tower of the Americas. Great views and good food.

More great shopping/dining options at the Shops at La Cantera on the NW side of town. Palladium movie theater there as well.

SeaWorld/Fiesta Texas are also on that side of town (it's actually the area where I live). FT is more ride-centric, SW more about the animals. Both have good waterparks.

Best Waterpark is Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels.

I'm sure I'll think of more later. Hope you have a good time in the 210

If you want to get some culture for your redneck butt, see what's playing at The Majestic Theater.

It was a shock to see a theater like this in Texas.

Sea World is probably great, but I'll never know. We went during spring break a few years ago, spent 2 hours in the car trying to get there and another hour standing in line to buy tickets, when we noticed that the ticket-holder line to get in the place wasn't moving before we bailed. Yeah, poor timing.

Boat tour was great, but largely due to the boat driver/narrator. He was a hoot.

Boudro's on the Riverwalk. Get the guacamole made in front of you. Good eatin'.

Majestic theater is legit. Haven't been in a month of Sundays, though. Need to take Aggiebelle, she'd love it.

Paloma Blanca (on Broadway near-ish the McNay)
Esquire Tavern downtown
El Mercado and Mi Tierra's is a must!
Rosario's and/or La Tuna in Southtown.

I second La Gloria and also recommend Il Sogno and the Sandbar at Pearl

The Blue Star Cafe/Halcyon is nice spot also south of downtown along the river.
Many craft breweries also (Alamo, Blue Star, Free tail)

There is apparently a really great place (The Luxury) that is housed in a shipping container across the river from SAMA but I have not personally tried it.

As others said, the Alamo isn't much and neither are the Missions really, but the Mission Reach is a lot of fun to run or bike.

Tacos. Lots of tacos. Breakfast tacos, puffy tacos, fajita tacos. Eat them all. As stated earlier, the more dive looking, the better.

1: Find the most rundown looking, hole in the wall Mexican joint you can find
2: Profit

Avoid the Riverwalk and the Mexican space needle, very touristy and too many ghetto Tejanos. La Cantera is better for shopping.

C'mon, man. It ain't like he's local. The Riverwalk is a must. Otherwise what's the point of visiting San Antonio?

And to others, all the anti-history buffs can EABOD. The Alamo is definitely a must for any Texas-born peeps and for anybody who cares about freedom, independence, all that silly American stuff.

I'm (you're shocked, I know) not a play kind of guy, but when we were there this was playing:

and it was outstanding. Silly takeoff on the Wizard of Oz but the singing/acting was outstanding. Great production and I'm glad we went. I imagine similar offerings are there pretty much all the time. And the theater is something you really don't expect to find in Texas.

I just never liked the RW, it's essentially an average large urban center mall with a river running through it. There are better malls in Houston and especially Dallas, and much better shopping just up 35 in San Marcos.

The best parts about SA are the high number of great divish eats, the relatively good transit times compared to Dallas, Austin and Houston, the Spurs and the proximity to a bunch of cool stuff on the 35 corridor.

In fairness to your young preconceived nonsense, this isn't something I'd want to do every weekend. Or month. But it really was a good time. And the theater is... well... majestic.

There is nothing even remotely in the same ballpark as the Riverwalk anywhere else in Texas.

Yes, it's a tourist trap. Pretty unique, though, with a vibe all its own. I know I'm biased because it's my town and I got married in HemisFair Park, but you can't front to someone like they're gonna get essentially the same experience at La Cantera or San Marcos, come on now
