Wow. According to the black box, the pilot left the cockpit presumably to use the bathroom and was locked out unable to get back in. Reports say that the co-pilot was breathing and conscious by all accounts of the recordings from the black box. So, why did he do this? Just some sick guy wanting to watch the world burn? An islamic extremist? Some other type of extremist? Also, any pilots or aviation experts on the rant to give any insight on to how exactly the cockpit doors work and would it have been possible for the co-pilot to have passed out and the plane descend like it did (although this is not to be believed what happened)?

Edit: forgot to post the link

Doors auto-lock. There is a key-pad with code on the outside. Flight deck has an over-ride that disables that keypad. Also, most have a manual deadbolt (on the flight deck side, obviously), too.

In MOST cases, no one is alone in the cockpit. One pilot leaves, a flight attendant goes in.

Auto-pilot would surely be on at that time. So, decent would likely be "no" unless the autopilot is disengaged on purpose.

In the U.S. I believe the FAA mandates it, but other nations' similar agencies don't.

Yep, I heard that on the news today that the U.S. does require a flight attendant to be in the cockpit when one of the pilots leaves for some reason but that is not the case everywhere. I also heard that the co-pilot had around 650 hours of experience and in the U.S. for a person to become his rank it takes 1500 hours of experience. Interesting.

The lengths government/media will go to in order to pin this on Islamic extremists, should be highly entertaining.

Haha I know. I get the feeling this guy was just mentally ill and had a sick death wish. However, any time one person causes many people to die at the expense of their own suicide, it is very hard not to look to extremists...especially when it involves a plane crash.

Yeah, that's it; push forward the suicide angle and it's a piece of cake from there to tie it to Islamic extremists.

This should be fun.

This German pilot that crashed this jet in the French Alps ... my bet is he was gay and fricked-up in the head. Not that all gay people are fricked-up in the head mind you - far from it. But this guy was gay and fricked-up in the head, suffering from all sorts of guilt trips (white guilt, nazi guilt, gay guilt) ... just about willing to bet.

BTW ... same thing with Beau Bergdhal who is also gay and fricked-up in the head. Not that all gay people are fricked-up in the head mind you - far from it. But Bergdhal is gay and fricked-up in the head, suffering from all sorts of guilt trips (white guilt, liberal guilt, gay guilt) ... just about willing to bet.

I have always been concerned about flying. It just seems unnatural for something that large and heavy to be airbone. There are so many mechanical and electrical failures that could happen and there is just no hope of survival from a plane crash. At least you have a chance in a car crash.

But to add a pilot or co- pilot with ill intentions is just too much. This is becoming more commonplace lately with the odd circumstances surrounding plane crashes. I realize this is just a very small sample with the hundreds of flights each day.....but still. Your life is in in the hands of a human that could have developed a mental illness or is just pissed off at the world.

I think that can depend on the country and the airline. I know on some commuter aircraft like Commair or others, if you look in the cockpit you see fricking children. Scares me sometimes. KLM's Fokker commuter jets in Europe always seem to have a very low mileage crew when I fly on them around Europe.

Wow, that seems to definitely point to the other pilot engineering the disaster. Since it seems apparent that he committed suicide, and many murders, how did he have the plane descend as it did? Would he have had to be in control or would the plane descend that way on its own if he was incapacitated somehow?

More like around 100,000 flights per day.
