unproven [proven]
SECRant related because the entire state of Mississippi has no idea what this means and at least 70% of the LSU posters.
Also, A&M to the final four!

Aggies also know what semen taste like, does that make you better than us as well.

It was proven in the 1990's. The guy just got the award recently. I have no idea why there was such a long delay, but whatever. I'm just happy to see it mentioned on tRant.

Wiles has been working on this for quite some time. Glad he finally got it.

If I'm not mistaken the work he and others did in the 90's was considered only a partial proof and has now been (generally) accepted as a full proof.

Do you know of any applications of this besides being a weird footnote?

Stupid math professors, no one cares about a theorem. Useless bunch of crap. Why didn't the professor give a solution to it since no one could ever figure it out.

Well I bet you couldn't tell me about the Monro-Kellie Doctrine with a Google search either....why not try to be an stereotyping a-hole for 1 day in your life.

Well y'all constantly remind us that this is an LSU board so that does make sense.

This is the guy that just won $700K for proving it?

I have admittedly tried to work it out once. I never thought I'd be able to do it, but it's kinda fun.

I did something like that in college. I was admittedly bored in abstract algebra and used most of that semester to find a prime number pattern. I must have filled a notebook trying. Didn't make any headway and gave up. Smarter men than me will figure it out someday(if that dude in Japan hasn't already).

Not really other than perhaps motivating the next generation of mathematicians simply because it was such a giant to overcome. Other than that, no I don't really see it contributing anything to society

Actually I couldn't either. So I Googled it. Now I have a headache.

I figured it might never be solved. It was the holy grail of math. Saw a program not long ago, on Curiosity Stream, about it and was fascinated to learn someone may have actually solved it ... although why they took so much time confirming he had solved it is a head scratcher.

Because they never let the janitor take a crack at it.

Fermat's theorem lead to the theory of Fermentation of decaying corndog remains.
Given: Those who eat corndogs emit a corndog odor.
Given: Eagles and/or Tigers have an odor after they have been trampled by an elephant and have expired and are decaying.
Given: "Odor" equals "stink."
Given: The corndog stink emitted by eaters of corndogs is detectible.
Given: The stink of elephant-flattened decaying Eagle or Tiger remains is also detectible.
Therefore: Those who eat corndogs stink like elephant-flattened decaying Eagle or Tiger remains.

I can guarantee you that nobody on this board, even those that are well versed in mathematics, understand at this very moment every mathematical technique used in the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem.
I never took a topology course so the entire idea of Ricci flow, while it doesn't sound horrible, is foreign to me in a mathematical sense and how the hell it relates to Fermat's Last Theorem is beyond me.
