and let the Feds control the area.

That's what I would do. Just shut it down. If the DOJ wants to come in there and try to run things, then I would tell them to bring in the National Guard and let them control the area.

Agreed but don't send in the National Guard. Just let the people of Ferguson Mad Max it up since they want to so bad. People like to rip on cops but they serve an important role. If they don't see that then frick 'em.

Those officers wouldn't quit. Maybe a few would leave, but many would stay and do their jobs.

I don't think the US Government should control anything. Plus, this would give them precedent to control EVERYWHERE.

Just fence the city off and let the place go back to nature.

I bet the average resident of Ferguson doesn't support the protests and the crime. I also bet the average resident of Ferguson would move if they had the means.

I picture an "Escape from New York" type scenario.

In a perfect world (which would never, ever happen):

I wouldn't even do that. I'd pull out law enforcement and say "frick it, you want us out, we're out" and let them deal with it Mad Max style. Pull out any government subsidies and just let the whole damn bunch fend for their own if their sole purpose is to try to take out law enforcement.

Ferguson is a total of 21K population, almost entirely black and poor. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the protests are probably very popular in the town.

Ferguson Police should shut down because the department is riddled with corruption.

The average resident of Ferguson is also the primary reason that Ferguson has devolved into a shithole.

St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, LA and several other cities have been doing just that for the last 50+ years. That sort of thinking guiding various policy decisions, including law enforcement decisions and allocations of resources, has been a major source of the problems that have developed. Chicago, for example loves containment based policing designed not to stop crime and lower it throughout the city but to simply keep it in this or that neighborhood. LA is does a lot of the same. That type of policing is fine and dandy if you're on this side of the railroad tracks but in places like Chicago it leaves a war zone on the other side of the tracks.

With St. Louis, super old city-county fights based on annexation and segregation have created all these little cities like Ferguson, many of which have wound up being economic have-nots, and left St. Louis to function as several cities instead of one city despite the fact that unification would've been beneficial to everyone long ago.

Read the DOJ's findings. It's pretty straight forward.

FPD does need to be shut down. They really are kinda shitty. Policing should be contracted out to the County PD, who is better trained, better equipped and have bigger and badder toys.

Missouri Supreme Court already took control of their municipal court. All that revenue....bye bye.

It's funny you say this. They used to do exactly this to keep the blacks out of the city years ago. Quite literally, at sundown, they would barricade and block off the streets so that blacks could not enter.

This is the first I've ever heard of something like that ever happening anywhere, so I'm genuinely curious...what did the crime rates look like during that time period?
