Red Cross is a joke. Money doesn't go where it's supposed to. If you give to the Red Cross, that money goes to their international treasury, not for SC. The same thing happened here in Louisiana for Katrina.

If you want to donate, try Habitat for Humanity. 100% of that money goes to where it is really needed.

If you still absolutely want to give to the Red Cross, try the South Carolina Red Cross. At least some of that money will help victims, but a lot of it goes toward stupid expenses they don't want you to know about.

Edit: Crap, thought I was in O-T lounge. Admin, please move.

Edit 2: Nevermind. I was in SEC Rant O-T board, thinking I was in TigerDroppings O-T board. Silly me.

The Red Cross took 300 million dollars for Haiti relief, and built 6 single family homes to show for it.

They're second only to the Susan b komen business scam.

Salvation Army is tons better than the Red Cross.

The Salvation Army typically spends 82% of donations on aid. But during disasters, it draws from its budget so it can direct 100% at relief efforts.

My dad is one of them. When he was liberated from a POW camp after the war (Bataan Death March survivor) he saw a Red Cross truck, but they were charging for muffins. He was so upset b/c he didn't have much money and he really wanted a muffin, esp after being interned in a Japanese POW camp for 3 1/2 years. frick the Red Cross.

Edit: typo

Most modern large non profits are really about sustainability first, then the cause. They do give back through money, time, awareness, etc... They might not give it all back because, again, their first priority is sustainability for the future. Really the charities/non-profits that give a significant percentage are largely volunteer based, but usually arent on the same level of giving back as the larger non profits.

Why should you be angered at an entity that actually does good? you are free to donate where ever you please. But these groups(at least the legit ones) actually do provide quite a bit of good and provide more money over a much longer period of time than the smaller ones that give back a larger percentage. The people that get angered quickly point out the percentage but not the total dollar amount

FWIW, I am not a part of any these institutions, but my wife and myself by default are actually quite involved in a non profit that has almost a 100% giving back rate

100% of money donated to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) goes directly to disaster services. No salaries, administrative fees etc come from donations.

UMCOR is usually among the first on scene and the last to leave.

My family refuses to use the Red Cross. A war buddy of my Grandpa retired from the Army and went to work for them. He came by the old Trout farm in Arkansas in a Lambo. I just remember my grandfather saying money meant for dying people paid for that car. Didn't realize what it meant until I was older and heard who he worked for.

No, Politically Correct isn't always right.

But politically correct is always NOT correct. Politically is an adverb: it modifies the adjective. Modifies means changes. Correct is the adjective. Ergo "politically correct" is OTHER THAN "correct".

Correct is a special case adjective, as well. Big and Short and Beautiful are of the common type of adjective. Something may be bigger or less big, shorter or less short, more beautiful or less beautiful, than something else. But "correct" is exclusive, like "true" or "ultimate". A thing is either true or it is not true. It is ultimate or it is not ultimate. There is no "more true" nor "less true". There is only "true" and "false". The same applies to "correct". One is correct or he is not correct.

So we see that "politically correct" means "incorrect".
