Buddy of mine was telling me that he had to take some diversity training for work a couple of weeks ago. Said the theme of the training was the subject line. We both think it's total bullshite. What do you think?

Concentrating on diversity hinders ability IMO... Ability is what drives profits/trophies. Diversity wins you the sportsmanship award... Nobody wants the sportsmanship award...

Ability. I mean, just look at the diversity of the average NBA team.

Obviously not.

I'm sure that a minority was either reprimanded or fired for not doing their job, they threatened to sue for racism or some bullshite, so the company caved and now is proving how tolerant they are by offering diversity training.

I mean honestly, how the frick does one become trained on diversity?

In a free market, these things sort themselves out.

Business A hires based on racism and gender-stereotypes.

Business B, their direct competitor, hires based solely on qualifications with no regard for race or gender.

Business B winds up with the most-qualified workforce, produces superior products and services and wins.

Until the day someone who could only hack it in business A sues for discrimination and wins a lawsuit against the company. That's the world we live in unfortuantely.

No. Equality of opportunity is what we should strive for, not equality of outcomes.

Nobody should be denied opportunity solely due to race, but they also should not be given an opportunity they haven't earned solely due to their race.

People need to accept that different races have different cultures, talents, and preferences.

Blacks are athletic and good at sports..they make great pro athletes.

Whites are good at general business and innovation.

Asians are good at technology.

There's nothing wrong or racist about acknowledging, as a group, each races positive or negative attributes. There are always exceptions, but there are also very clear patterns when looking at each race as a group. It takes all kinds to make the world go around.

Great post Deltaland.

Something I noticed is that two of the three examples you gave tend to advance a civilization and one is for entertainment.

It is not the positive attributes that are the problem it is the negative ones that hinder a society.

Diversity bias is racism. Think about it.

Companies do this for the sole purpose of documenting the fact they've done it, in case they get sued in the future.

Same reason they have safety meetings.

fricking lawyers continuing to ruin this country.

I work for a very large company that trumpets diversity. I have to take a diversity class every year. They even have diversity advisory committees, diversity events, and other things like that.

In most companies, diversity does not mean quotas or affirmative action. Where I work, we hire based on ability and qualifications for the job. We are strongly asked to interview diverse candidates and if we can't then we have to write up the reasons why.

The larger companies in the US have bought into diversity big time. It makes them look inclusive to potential customers. There is also an argument that diversity allows you to learn how others, who do not look like you, do things. Basically providing the company with a more holistic view of the world which could lead to a better product, inroads to other markets, or a better solution to a problem.

Also, these companies know that America is changing and becoming more diverse. So the more they embrace it, the better they will look to future customers.

Just giving you a view from a large company perspective. It's interesting times to say the least.

Eh, this is a slippery slope to go down, tbh.

Most of those attributes have to do with socioeconomic status and geography more than anything.

Just leave it up to ability and be done with it. Anything else it's too easy to start painting with a broad brush.

Eh, depends on what you mean by diversity. The way you put isn't really diversity as much as solving racial conflicts within his job.

We have to have real diversity training at my job. I may speak with representatives from Japan, the middle east, and South America all in the same week. Knowing their customs and not offending them comes from having diversity training. Upset customers is bad for your career.
