Does the US have a combo fighter/recon plane that can fly in orbit and strike with so much precision to leave buildings standing on each side of target?

I know officially the word is no. But did Skunkworks or somebody else develop this?

The F16 was our interceptor in the 1980's. It was designed and built via the Skunkworks 10 - 20 years earlier. Using this example look at our current mainline aircraft and figure what it might look like in 20 years then assume the prototypes have already been built today.

Our government has copious amounts of unknown technology and aircraft, that's all I can say.

Our government is many years ahead of us in terms of technology It wouldn't surprise me if they did have something like this

I am not sure for two reasons..

The logistics and upkeep of launch and recovery, what base do you use? Groom Lake no, maybe in the Rockies or in California?

The cost involved?

I want to say yes due to the advance of technology. Plus Skunkworks engineers are just brilliant.

The military has technology that public won't know exists for 10-20 years. If it's theoretically obtainable in that time frame then its a safe bet to assume they already have it.

If Skunkworks still exists under that appellation I'd be surprised.

The skunkworks is a division of Lockheed based in Palmdale CA. Still very much alive. Boeing has a similar division called phantom works in Seattle. Both are heavily involved in drone research with Boeing doing much of its work for the Navy Lockheed mostly has done USAF work over the years

I know they do have this Space Drone X-37B Mysterious space plane blasts off for secretive US air force mission

Not saying it could fly around in space and shoot down enemy satellites leaving them blind to attacks.
But maybe.

The technology probably exists, and there may even be experimental prototypes out there .... who knows.

But why would we need something like that?

We've got armed killer satellites out there that are there to take-out other satellites .... plus we can launch missiles from earth and do the same thing in short order for a lot less money.

We've got unmanned drones that can, and do, fly indefinitely while carrying all sorts of offensive payloads.

Our precision strike capability is already well documented, well illustrated. We can launch a missile in Nebraska from a remote operator's console at Bragg and put down a smoke stack in Ahvaz with very little effort.

Aurora may exist, probably does, but as with most modern/new aeronautic designs and technologies it is outdated before it ever has a chance to go into full production.
