I try to pray but I feel like I'm just talking to myself.

People tell me that God speaks to them and shite but I just don't believe them. I think the human mind has the capacity to come to special realizations about life and the world around us and maybe people call that God speaking to them.

I don't know. We say a prayer with my 2 yr old before bed every night but sometimes I feel like it's just bullshite and it makes me sad that I feel that way.

Most of it is bullshite but that doesn't mean there's no God

Yeah, I feel that. I mean, I really want to believe in God and I've spent the past year really digging into what I believe and why I believe it. Sometimes I just get discouraged and I think the main reason I have trouble is that there are a ton of people who believe in God and decide to speak for God that I find myself just wanting nothing to do with any of it.

I've been told that encountering a bunch of shitty people is a terrible reason to give up on God and that's probably true.

Meditation does more for me than prayer tbh.

How do you get your mind to slow down enough to do that?

It comes real natural for me. Guess I'm lucky. I also use light/sound machine to train my brain once in a while.

I feel like my 2 yr old is a light/sound machine. She can do more damage to my psyche in 10 minutes than an 8 hour shitty work day.

ETA: still love her to death though.

Praying always felt artificial to me. Meditation feels genuine and real.

Maybe this is wrong, but I decided to just do what came natural which resulted in my faith really taking a hit. So I'm probably not the person you should talking about this with.

But to answer your question, I sometimes pray but not often.

I'm an atheist and I find myself praying from time to time. I don't expect an answer, and for the last sixteen years there's been none. I think one of the best decisions of my life was to go to therapy.

Not saying prayer is bad, but sometimes you do need an outside voice to provide the foil.

Dude, you have no idea. I've been blogging about the same kind of stuff all year long and my social circles have pretty much evaporated. Turns out questioning religion is polarizing.

I have been seriously considering this but I also don't have a lot of disposable income so I use the SECr.

I don't know your life, but remember that you've always got friends here.

I usually dump my problems here.

I don't pray much,but I will if I need help.
God is pretty busy.

He made me pretty damn capable ,and that isn't something that I take lightly.

I am so thankful for that, he designed me to be a thinker,so hopefully I get a pass on some of my screw ups. For real though, I try to send my respect to God, thankful, or questioning.

Before every meal. Before I go to bed

I catch myself talking to God throughout the day. I don't know if you call that prayer or not.

I've never been much of a praying man, and certainly not religious. For the last week I've prayed for my mom, who's spent the last 2 weeks in the hospital.

It's kind of humbling, to admit when you're powerless and scared, and I need that some times.

This is true and it's pretty sad. How can you believe something you're not allowed to question? I worked at my church for the past couple of summers as a intern and found that people that actually work at the church are questioning things all the time. I don't know why but that comforted me somewhat because I'm not a person who goes to church all the time and I don't pray as much as a lot of people say you should. I pretty much just pray when I feel I need to. I don't understand what good praying does if you aren't feeling what you're praying.

When I pray I've never heard an actual answer and I'm not sure whether people actually hear an actual answer or not. But there has been times in my life when I was struggling with something and then something happens where I feel like God is talking through a person or through some actions that happen.

Overall I think people should just do what they feel like brings them closer to God. I don't think not praying or not going to church makes you any less of a Christian if it doesn't do anything for you.
