They are handouts to the banks because they are federally insured.

That is a seriously loaded question.

No, because I have already paid mine back in full.

Other times and circumstances, absolutely.

If the loan is paid back, no.....if not paid back, yes

I consider them ruining college and the biggest reason for the higher price tags for the education. If there is no government ruling that will payoff the loans then no as far as the students are concerned. However, banks have benefitted because they are guaranteed by the gov.

Whether the loan is paid back or not, the bank makes money. It's probably the most glaringly obvious example of corporatism there is.

For me? No because I had to pay every penny of mine back, plus interest. And because there's an actual sense of accomplishment once that debt has been paid off. Hand-outs shouldn't come with a sense of accomplishment.

So you needed money, and the government gave it to you.

Whether you paid it back or not is irrelevant, the government helped you when you had no other options.

He used the available option besides just working and pay as you go.

He paid his loan back. Loan being the key word. As opposed to the other government entitlement programs that don't require a damn thing except fake info. Technically you may be right but the intent is what matters to me.

Actually, wrong again.

I got less than 20% of my loans from the government because my parents made too much money. How the frick that makes any sense I will never know. I was taking out loans because I was paying for my college.

I got the vast majority of my loans privately. The only reason I got government loans was because the interest rate was substantially lower.

So I had plenty of other options, I just chose the smarter route because I have a brain.

But you have an agenda here, and I wouldn't expect you to understand it anyway.

Not if the loans are paid off. Otherwise, yes for instance if the government ends up forgiving said loans.

You need $10,000.

The government gives it to you, tells you to pay it back whenever.

But it's not a handout.

1. If you make payments for 10 years, the remainder of your debt is expunged.

2. Why are an idiot?
