Allies were very lucky that Hitler was so inept as a commander.

Today is my 9 year mark in the Marine Corps! Nothing like stepping on the yellow footprints and meeting drill instructors on 6-6-06. (not to take away from your post)

Cool, was an 0302 and in 2 Helo companies. As a FSTm Ldr loved the Huey. That comm package you can talk to "God" and rain down some serious fire power!
What the Osprey like? Never got a chance to fly in one and wonder what they use for gunships since they'd out range/speed the snakes.

Only flown as a pax in transport in an MV22.
That's pretty much they are used for. Still transport but they do have a side and tail gunner. We're still using the cobra as the primary attack the AH-1W version, but the corps is implementing the new 4 blades. The 4 bladed Huey has been operational in combat since 2009 (2008 if you count a MEU) the 4 bladed cobra is only in use on Pensleton and hasn't heen operational

Will the 4 blade Snake have the legs/range to escort the Osprey all the way?
Read recently they are thinking of mounting a gun turret up front on the Osprey for self defense, any truth to that rumor?

I honestly don't know too much about the MV22 or what they are trying to implement. They don't need full escort though where as 46/47's and 60's do need escort.
that's the thing they are the fastest helicopter in helicopter mode but the slowest in airplane mode.
