Could your SEC school still function in the case of an all-out nuclear attack?

This is one of those Flashback Friday threads...it's not exactly the 1960s any more and the USSR no longer exists, so this seems not too likely of a scenario these days. Looks like most SEC cities could have taken a direct strike, pretty much rendering their campuses unusable for a while. Looks like LSU would have taken the worst hit, while Mizzou would've gotten the worst after-effects from fallout. Arky, Ole Miss, MSU, Auburn, and UGa appear likely to have remained physically intact, although UGa is directly downwind from a bit of Atlanta's fallout--so pretty much all of the SEC East schools would've been doomed in some manner.

Not only survive but we'd retaliate

I'm not sure about all that...but I do know Mizzou has underground tunnels and steam tunnels throughout campus.

My dorm freshman year has an old fallout shelter, so we'd be good.

If we're nearly as capable as Israel in knocking missiles out of the sky, I seriously doubt that many, if any, nuclear bombs would make it to their targets. Meanwhile, extra-crispy Russians or Chinese would be at a premium.

Looks like your next door neighbor Bryan, Texas made the list though. That's close enough.

Tuscaloosa made the list, bruh. Fallout shelters aren't too much of a help in those particular cases.

With that many attacks, the entire country would be blanketed in fallout and therefore die.

We all lose.

Answer to your question: Every SEC school would cease to exist after an all out nuclear attack.

See the black area about half way down the SC/Georgia border?

That's where I live....a couple of miles from the Savannah River Site that used to make enriched plutonium used in nuclear fusion.

That's why that particular area was targeted.

This, only a small fraction would live past 60 days

That tiny amount would be living in hell on earth. I would prefer to be gone.

But our most deadly super weapon, code name Tbirdspur2010, is no longer active duty

Well, let's just play nice and pretend that it's only a partial accidental attack--like hypothetically only one Soviet missile silo malfunctioned and mis-fired off some rockets at the southeastern U.S. only. Most of the SEC West looks like it could survive. Auburn would be the only Big Six school left, however, assuming that UGa succumbs to Atlanta's fallout.

If Oak Ridge,TN ever got hit, UT and the entire city of Knoxville (and surrounding area) would be obliterated.

Uark campus has its own generating capacity and electric system independent of the grid. When the ice storm from hell hit several years ago, my home in Fayetteville had no power for 6 days. UA kept the lights on for the whole event.

Depends on whether or not they target Oak Ridge in the first round of attacks. If so, we are fricked along with a number of others. But especially us. All the wine, iodine pills, and stockpiles in the world wouldn't do any good.

Whoever made that circle for South Carolina has no idea where Columbia is.
