So there is this older guy at work, great guy, very friendly, but also VERY sensitive about everything.

Instead of saying "specific" he says "pacific" the first 10-15 times it bothered me but was able to brush it off. Now after 100s of times it just drives me insane to the point where I dont hear anything he is saying in meetings.

If there a way to correct him, without coming off as a douche? Like I said super nice guy but extremely sensitive. Like girl on her period like sensitivity. (once walked out of a meeting room in tears because he misspelled a word on his presentation documents)...

Or do I just let the anger build and deal with it and never say a word... It's so aggitating though I do not know if I can handle it much more without blowing up.

It is all an act and he's just doing it to F*** with you. I think I'm going to start doing it at work and see who comes unglued.

OP is vague. Could you be a little more pacific?

After he says "Pacific", act like you didn't hear him correctly, and ask him if he said "Specific". Keep doing it until he correct the way he says it.

Sure, just be an adult about it. Next time he says it, just politely say "did you pacific? I think it should be specific."

That's pretty straightforward without being a butthead about it. If he gets upset over that then you shouldn't feel bad at all because he probably gets upset about 100000 worse things per day than that.

Don't do it. Real men keep their feelings to themselves forever.

I'd let it go. Sounds like the dude will not be able to take even the most gentle of correcting.

Jut avoid any and all contact with co-workers and then you don't have to listen to it.

Why does it bother you?

Be glad he is not a serial killer.

Will it matter in 5 years?

If not,
Let it go.

Is he trying to screw your wife?
Kidnap your kids?

If not, let it slide.

I've worked with malignant a$$holes who are trying to make you look bad every chance they get.

Save your confrontations for as$holes. This guy sounds harmless.

Hell, say pacific, Atlantic, Mediterranean, whatever.

The problem this guy has, however, is that he thinks he's saying specific. He hears "specific" when he says "pacific."

Try using pacific in a sentence that should use specific and see if he corrects you. If he's the perfectionist that the OP describes then he probably will.

At that point you could tell him about his misuse of the word. He'll probably still feel bad, but there doesn't seem to be a way to let him know without hurting his feelings.

It's the workplace and you have a duty to let him know that it's unprofessional. I'm sure he'd rather hear it from a co-worker than from someone outside the company.

Duct tape a 9/16" nut to his drive shaft and let physics handle the rest.
