Just a disclaimer: Prior to this year I had only been to the state of Missouri a few of times: One hunting trip up by the Iowa border, a baseball game in KC, and driving through from Memphis to Chicago. Never thought much of it.

But this year I have been looking at opening a new branch of my business in SE MO (ozarks region). So I have been to the area quite a few times in the past two months. I have been really impressed with the scenery and the people.

Then, last week I went to Columbia for the first time. What a town! To be honest, I had no idea it was that cool. Beautiful campus, cool downtown, lots of neat bars, shops, and apartments. Very impressed.

To be honest, it reminds me of a bigger Oxford (120,000 people vs 40,000). It's a nice blend of Midwest College Town and Southern Small Town.

Anyhow, to those of you who have never been (talking to you, State fans who might be thinking about going this year), it's definitely worth a trip. I am looking forward to spending more time there in the days to come.

PS: Mizzoukills, this does not mean that you are not still a complete douchebag. On the contrary, considering what a cool town you got to experience in college, it makes my opinion of you even lower, if that is at all possible. Carry on.

There are enough meth labs already; I recommend looking at Gainesville

True story: I was touring an older warehouse that had been abandoned for about 6 years (since the 2008 crash). I was figuring how much it would cost to rewire the whole place. Since, of course, the copper and the panels would all have been stripped out and vandalized. So, the guy goes over and opens the panels and it hadn't been touched.

This is an abandoned industrial site 100 yards off a main road with no locks on the doors, and no security. In my part of the world, that copper wouldn't have lasted a weekend, much less 6 years.

MO may have some meth tweekers. But they are either too lazy or too few of them to need to strip copper from a building. I was genuinely impressed by their restraint.

Mizzou is KNOWN for having the most polite meth users in the country.......it's a cultural thing.

"....a bigger Oxford (120,000 vs 40,000)"

Oxford tripled in size since the 2010 census? How did that happen?

Honestly not trying to brag...but most of the people who aren't impressed by missouri are the ones who haven't been here. I know a lot of people who come here saying they didn't expect it to be the way it was, and leave with plenty of positives.

Oxford is pretty small. Sure, the SEC has some college towns which aren't especially appealing when compared to other college towns. Oxford is really just a smaller, compact version of other larger college towns like Columbia or Fayetteville. In a lot of ways, Oxford is Fayetteville 30 years ago, a two-laned college town focused on a quaint town square, with a few big city-ish amenities and a performing arts center.

Fayetteville is on its way to becoming Austin of 30 years ago--a start-up hub in beautiful "hill country", with a booming economy, a big state university, and lots of hipsters/hippies.

The best part is, CoMo sucks when schools not in session.

False. CoMo is the best when school isn't in session. You have just as much to do (besides Mizzou games of course) but the weather is great and there aren't so damn many people in town, so finding a place to eat/park is a breeze.

I guess this is age pending. For a 24 yo its extremely boring.

Preciate the kind words

I enjoy Columbia. It took me some getting used to after moving from KC, but after my years in school so far I've fallen in love with it. Hopefully over the years some more people like yourself from other SEC schools will come up and visit. CoMo and Missouri might not seem so foreign to SEC fans once they familiarize themselves with the area.

people who talk crap about como are the same people who talk crap about fayetteville.

It's 100% evident that they've never been there before.

I went to Branson in junior high and the Ozarks are fricking beautiful. The only part of the trip that sucked was driving through shitty Oklahoma.

Disclaimer: I live in Missouri! :)

I've been to 41 states so far and Missouri is my favorite by far. Mostly for the 4 seasons weather which I enjoy but also for all of the float streams, forests and lakes.

It's fly over country for many and after seeing a childhood swimming hole go from "mine!" to having to share it with a bunch of asshats from ILL I prefer it stay that way.

CoMo is awesome and a great college town! The Springfield area is beautiful and we have KC & STL.

Southeast MO has some hidden gems if you know where to look: Elephant Rock, Johnson Shut-ins, Taum Sauk, Tip Top, Pink Rock, Silver Mines, Mill Stream Gardnes...it's endless!

SC's Columbia and its team does, too.

Seriously, though..never been to CoMo, but I have been to Branson and the Kansas City area as well (both the Kansas and the Missouri sides, obviously) and I enjoyed it.

I liked y'alls Kansas City better than the alternative, as well.

I can see where Fayetteville will be what Austin was 30 years ago.

Austin is a great cool spot but the city has changed so much and outsiders are changing it.
