From what I've seen so far only 50 confirmed dead (That's pretty amazing IMO) with hundreds injured

Wow that's absolutely horrible.

That's a chemical plant, holy shite! Being in the electrical field I've seen some pretty gruesome aftermath of electrical explosions and that shite is sobering.

Check out some arc flash stuff on YouTube. That shite is no joke.

Anyone have specifics on the factory? What was being made there?

I like how it went from something slightly alarming/dangerous to let's get the frick out of here.

I saw this particular video on my Facebook feed last night. I searched around for a while looking for info on the actual blast since I have been out of the loop for a few days. Not much out there. It seem to happen at the docks. It was a place that was storming some "flammable material". That was all I could find.

Who knows what it is and if we will ever know the answer. the Chinese are like Japanese. They do not like to give out details of stuff like that. And when they do, it is usually not true.

If only 50 are dead, that would be amazing. I bet there is more but we are not hearing the details.

Was that the chemical plant where they make the stuff that they put in the pet foods that they export?

That explosion was the equivalent of the smallest nuke ever produced by America. 21 tons of explosive. The bomb was called the Davy Crockett. The explosion is also 681 times smaller than the bomb we dropped on Hiroshima.

I can't find it now, but I read last night that the materials in the warehouse when combined with water create acetylene gas, which combined with the air and ignited creates a powerful explosion. So powerful here that it registered on earthquake seismographs nearby. The firefighters lost their lives because of bad communication as to the type of fire they were fighting. Truly a horrible, horrible tragedy.

Edit: The material in the initial warehouse was apparently calcium carbide

Wasn't it at night? I doubt too many people were in the immediate area.

Was it a factory? I heard it was a chemical warehouse.

Industrial complex I'd assume. Factory plus warehouses. The real death toll is probably never going to be public knowledge due to the Chinese government trying to downplay the event. There were first responder reports I read that estimated they pulled 300 bodies out of rubble so far. People love to bitch about OSHA, but this can be a result when you don't take safety in a hazardous work site seriously.

I live about 30 miles from West, the town that had an explosion a few years back. I could hear this explosion from there
