Is it not the most pleasant experience for the chicken/animals? Obviously not. But frankly, they're there for the purpose of being food. If we're worried about the chicken being "hurt" then I could tell some fun stories about the chickens my Great Aunt used to kill on her farm. Same with the cows we took to the slaughter house.

As long as it's sanitary conditions (seemed pretty clean from the looks of it) and they're monitoring disease among the animals (the more we try to avoid Mad Cow the better) then I don't see much of an issue.

Now if you want to talk about the level of hormones in some of what we eat then I could understand. But I don't see any of that mentioned anywhere in the video.

Its not sustainable.
Its not healthy.
Its not fair (we have steroid farms built for profit, not health, while so many others starve).

More reasons and more depth can be given, but for me that's enough.

So how do you suggest we feed all these people? Especially those in suburban and/or urban areas where you can't exactly put a coop out in your yard (FWIW we actually have laws against it here in city limits)?

I know better than to argue with someone who would type this. Go track down a chicken farmer under contract with a big company and ask him how safe and secure his facility is.

If you really understand it you'd have no problem eating big US company chicken rather than a chicken that has been eating bugs and actual shite free ranging.

So you'd rather eat a chicken full of hormones and steroids than a natural one?

Why do the big companies mandate the chicken coops have no sunlight? That's sort of odd

Also, I'm not a zero-sum thinker. It's not one or the other. There are other possibilities.

As to one, you have no idea what or how the things they're putting in chicken now work. These things nowadays are ran through the ringer by company and FDA types who can make a lot better decision and judgment than we can.

As to two, they move less in the dark and it gets the chicken up to weight faster.

As to both, we'd all be eating spam if smarter people weren't thinking about how to keep us fed with good protein at a low price. If you had your way we'd all be eating crappier meat at a higher price. The meat isle at the grocery store is pretty much a miracle of human civilization. Go ahead and pay more for the organic label, you're being had.

You'd be amazed at the regulations a chicken farmer has to go through mandated by the Gov't. Knew a couple families that retired raising them.

You sure? I thought chickens were exempt but bigger livestock had to be grandfathered in. there was a guy with a horse in his yard downtown but that exemption went away when he died. I know a guy who is raising bees and chickens in the city limits in a nice neighborhood. I think he can only have hens and they have to be for eggs.

The FDA is about profit, not health. Most regulations are there to hamper the uprise of a small farmer doing it the right way.

Thanks for confirming that you're probably not the type who can really discuss this.
