Dylann Roof, the alleged gunman authorities say is responsible for killing nine people in a Charleston, South Carolina, church Wednesday night, has been apprehended, authorities said.
"I can confirm that there is a subject in custody in relation to the shootings in Charleston from last evening," U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said today at a news conference. "And, of course, this moves us into a different phase of the investigation, which will be pursued as vigorously and with as complete cooperation as the apprehension of this individual."
Police said Roof, 21, was arrested today at a traffic stop in Shelby, North Carolina, about 250 miles north of Charleston.

Probably a redneck right wing nut job with an assault rifle.

9 people killed, black church, shooter at large and is described as a white male in early to mid 20s.
This is not good.

Going to be interesting in the area for the next couple of days, that's for sure.
Charleston has a high per capita rating for violent crimes, most people that come here don't realize this until they watch the evening news for a few days.

Over/under on how long before the "this is a product of systemic racism by whites" rhetoric: 4.5 hours

What's the scenario then?

White dude who was apparently unknown to the members of the church.
Unequivocal claims by mayor that it was a hate crime.
Gonna be ugly ugly.

Really sad stuff. This will undoubtedly turn into race/gun control on a continuous loop on the news outlet.

I hope they catch this tPOS quickly before he hurts/murders anyone else.

Given what we know so far, this pretty clearly seems to be race related, given what we know so far.

It's all the talk at work here today. Probably gonna impact our sales, weirdly enough. It seems like when these shootings take place, we sell more firearms.

That's not weird at all. People will be trying to purchase firearms, anticipating that it will be more difficult to do so in the future. Just trying to get ahead of any knee-jerk legislation that will almost certainly be passed after a tragedy like this.

This sort of thing isn't really new. Churches have been a target of mass murders for a long, long time now.
They're a perfect fit for the target profile. A large group of people in a very confined area that's open to the public and generally considered to be gun free (except it didn't work out so well for Matthew Murray when he picked a church with a member with a concealed carry weapon).

This was exactly the case I was thinking of when I heard about this shooting.
The main point next is going to be whether this tPOS purchased the weapon legally or illegally. I hope it was the latter.

That certainly appears to be the case and there's no doubt the story the media will lead with, but at this point there's just no certainty. A vast percentage of the initial reports after these incidents turn out to be completely wrong.
The guy could be whiter than me and have a life sized portrait of Nathan Bedford Forrest on his bedroom wall but he could also be a true blue lefty that snapped (like the guy that shot Rep. Giffords). While not very likely, he could also be a terrorist ala ISIS looking to trigger racial violence in the US. Far more likely than anything, he's simply a garden variety nutjob without any real political agenda. Most mass-shooters don't really have a history of political activism. They're just crazy.
No matter the motive, it is a terrible, tragic event and I hope they find the tPOS and terminate his existence in rapid fashion.
