Gunfire erupted in an Odenville neighborhood this morning when authorities say a convicted sex offender tried to break into a home, and was then briefly held at gunpoint by a neighbor.
Despite having a gun pointed at him, said Odenville Police Chief Adam Pardue, the suspect fled. The neighbor opened fire, and hit one tire. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jason Dewayne McBride, tried to run over two law enforcement officers who had set up a roadblock and then crashed.
No one was seriously injured. "It definitely could have been worse,'' Pardue said.
The incident began about 11 a.m. in Odenville's Legacy Springs subdivision. A neighbor saw someone, later identified as McBride, get out of a vehicle and tuck a gun into his pocket. McBride then broke into a home there, police said.
The neighbor confronted McBride, and called police. He told dispatchers he was holding the suspected burglar at gunpoint. In the meantime, the police chief said, McBride decided he wasn't going to stick around. He jumped into his vehicle and sped off.
The neighbor fired on the McBride's vehicle. "The neighbor tried to shoot the tires out,'' Pardue said. "He did hit one back tire which helped us to apprehend him."
McBride headed toward Highway 174. Pardue said law enforcement, including Springville police and St. Clair County sheriff's deputies, set up a perimeter and roadblocks. "He tried to run over one officer before we set up the roadblock, and when he got to our roadblock, he tried to run over another,'' Pardue said. "He ran off the road and wrecked."

I have some customers in that subdivision. Glad to see someone get their due for being a thug.

nah.. St. Clair is still good country folk, even at the county seat level. He'd never faced charges if he'd killed the guy, imo.

The homeowner shot at this man? Unbelievable! He should be arrested!

Can't imagine charges being filed.

Nope.. the guy was armed and as stated.. St. Clair Co is very country. That town is really small.. no way he'd been charged by them and no way the county woulda either. Bama used to have a fleeing felon law where it was legal to shoot a felon fleeing a crime. They need to bring it back statewide.
