What are some words/phrases you encounter at work that get on your nerves?

I probably dislike "touch base" the most. Makes me cringe hard. I also try to avoid using "team" as much as possible.

On the other end of the spectrum, I use the shite out of "please advise" in my emails. I could see that getting under some people's skin.

What are some of yours?

When people don't use the military phonetic alphabet to spell words to me verbally.

It's a silly peeve since I'm not in the military anymore and it gets the point across just fine, but dammit "d as in delta" sounds so much better to me than "d as in dog"

Black guy doesn't like dogs. Seems legit.

(I think this is the second time I've cracked a black guy/dog hate joke on you, sorry)

I must have missed the first one. Or forgotten about it. Likely the latter

Where did that one come from anyways? That's a stereotype I'm not too familiar with.

Man I crush with "touching base". Also literally work on a team, so hilarious that those are the two you mentioned. I also "please advise" when dealing underwriters and shite all the time but it's usually when I'm irritated.

My pet peeve is probably when someone emails me and asks if I "have a minute" and they are literally next door to me. Just poke your head around and ask and I'll give you the yay or nay bro. Don't email me with nothing but a question in he subject line.

I work on a team as well, and don't have any particular reasoning for disliking the two phrases, I just don't. That's why I'm interested in some things that might get on other people's nerves even if there isn't really a reason.

I guess the main reason for "touch base" is how overused and cliche it is.

Any answer other than "meeting" is wrong. I've been at my new job for 3 weeks and I've had about 7 different meetings with different people.

What else do you propose calling it though? I hate them too, but should we call it hanging out?

"synergistic" and "internet of things" make me want to punch a deaf kitten in the balls.

We had Lync and it is now Skype! These people can literally send me an IM! But they still email me a single question in the subject line.

It's usually...older folks.

I also have a client who will email me and say nothing but "call me when you get a chance" in the subject line. As I'm sitting next to my office phone not doing a damn thing.

Yea touch base is basically the same as "we need to talk about something"

Now I'm going to notice these things more because I didn't think about it until now. Except for the email subject line thing I mentioned.

A lot times during our morning meeting, people say "Let's touch base offline."
Both terms bug the shite out of me.
