Just wondering on what yalls suggestions would be for a nice, week long summer trip to Florida? Me and the SO have been to Destin and PCB multiple times, but we were looking for somewhere new to go in Florida. Also, the Charleston and Myrtle Beach areas are an option. Thanks!

West coast of Florida is nice. Great beaches. Ft Myers, Sarasota etc. The Keys is a fun trip too. Not so much for the beaches, cause those suck, but a great place to party.

If you have a week do a tour all the way down into the Florida Keys and drive back on the toll road home the last day.

I liked Sarasota, nice restaurants, fairly laid back.

We are definitely looking at the west coast beaches. We arent really sure what the best option is between the clearwater/st.pete area or the ft. myers/etc area

Orange County Jail. Learn how to live a life of confinement, lack of freedom and personal space.

Key Biscayne off Miami, then head to the keys for real. Great road trip and an awesome and extremely unique destination in Key West.

Longboat Key is across from Sarasota and it's an awesome place.
Have never been but hear Marco Island is pretty outstanding.
Keys are amazing as well. No beaches however.

What do yall think of Destin? Seems a little touristy, but it would be a whole lot closer for us. Plus the beaches look really nice. All the restaurants there seem to have fried crab claws, and my SO LOVESSSS fried crab claws

Destin has the best food in Florida IMO.

Destin is very nice. However, if it's your honeymoon you're talking about, I'd try just a little further East and rent a place in Seaside.
Check it out.

st. augustine to daytona is just beautiful east coast and lots of touristy old, historical shite like charleston, but even older.

St. Augustine is really cool if you like to visit some old artifacts. The beaches on the gulf though are way better than the east coast side.

Sanibel Island near Ft Myers.

Just remember the old people eat early. And dont think you are going to get anywhere fast. Those geezers drive 5 mph under the speed limit...errywhere!

Not really. Things that are still standing are about the same age as the stuff in Charleston. And the fort at St. Augustine wasn't originally at that site, it was in Georgia. The fort isn't as old as the tourist board of St. Augustine would have you believe.
OP, you still live in MS? Then just go to Gulf Shores and be done with it. If it's a honeymoon, go to Cancun.
If you are going to travel 12+ hours, then go to Charleston or Savannah. Savannah is prettier, but Charleston has more things to do. Savannah is more laid back, but Charleston is more expensive. They both have close-by barrier islands with beaches. And the Georgia/Carolina coast shrimp taste better than gulf of mexico shrimp. Oysters are also better.
Savannah also has fewer yankees than Charleston, which has fewer yankees than anywhere in Florida.

cool... tell me more about places within an hour from where i've lived for over 30 years. castillo de san marco is still decades older than that shitty pink house in charleston and a lot cooler. i actually just built a beach rental property just south of the state garden there in northern flagler county. i love how peaceful that area is.
cedar key would've been my number 2 suggestion... but let people who don't live in florida tell you all about a place they've visited for a couple weeks.

Charleston has two forts. St Augustine has 1.
And talk to any expert, if De Marco was as old as they say it is, it would be built from tabby, not the "reconstruction" materials from 1738 as it currently sits, and is 68 years more recent than the year Charleston was founded.
You probably also believe Fort Caorline was on the St. John's River.
Tell me more about your beach rental property, and how that places Fort Caroline 10 miles up the St. John's 200 years before the mouth was dredged to make it passable by ship.
I'll hang up and listen.

Newlyweds are everywhere right now, you don't have to drive to FL to see some
