Looking to buy a firestick with kodi already installed on it. I don't trust myself to load it up myself. Those of y'all who have them, can you give me some suggestions on where to buy one? I'm a little leery of ebay. Thanks.

I see people selling them on craigslist and offerup all the time. Why not just do it yourself? It's pretty easy.

It's very easy to load. Probably not worth paying double, unless you're bad at using technology and computers.

Firestick is kinda old. The current hotness for such devices is a Nvidia Shield, or a Mi Box.

Plus you don't want Kodi anymore. The fork SPMC is better right now.

No, a Roku isn't Android so it can't install anything except what comes from Roku's store.

You can setup a Plex server in your home and stream almost anything to a Roku though. Plex is a Roku supported app.

I have 2.

It's a very simple process.

The hard part is figuring out how to load repositories and add-ons.

You can figure it out though. I think it would be hard to corrupt the firestick.

I was toying around with the idea of building an HTPC, but I'd rather just run an app through the Roku. It'd save me a couple hundred bucks on a hard drive, etc.

Just go on Amazon and order an Android box with Kodi. Its like a mini computer and there are tons of them. Just read the reviews to get the one that suits you. You can get a good one for 60 or 70 bucks and it will have lots of add-ons for movies pre-loaded. Just be sure to order a mini wireless keyboard to with it. Makes life a lot easier.

HTPCs are pretty much dead, and I say that as a guy who basically builds them for fun (I have over five).

Right now the thing to buy is a Nvidia Shield. It can run apps like a Roku, but it can also install real programs like Kodi like a computer can.

The Shield is basically the perfect all-in-one entertainment box.

Better. The guy above is talking about an unofficial Android box which are usually subpar experiences because they use the phone version of Android and not Android TV OS.

You want the OS made for the TV so you can have apps that expect a remote.

Do yourself a favor and just get a Chromecast. Kodi is on the Play Store, you can load it on your phone (just like you would on a Firestick) and then cast it to any chromecast. No longer need to tie your Kodi to a Firestick.
