Best Halloween Haunted Attractions?

I've been to The Darkness twice and I wasn't impressed. Sure, they sink millions of dollars into it, but you wait in line for nearly 2 hours, and when you go through you realize it isn't scary. The money is spent on props and special effects rather than actors who know how to scare people.

Plus, the rising popularity of "exteme haunted houses" like McKamey Manor in San Diego and Blackout in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago will make these million dollar haunted houses obsolete.

People want to be scared not dazzled by expensive special effects. The extreme haunted houses are using real fear and torture to give people a truly terrifying experience.

I just wish an extreme haunted house was in St. Louis or KC.

In fact, for any entrepreneurs looking at this thread...perhaps we should consider starting an extreme haunted house in St. Louis modeled after McKamey Manor and Blackout.

I figured we had something given the nightly ghost tours and whatnot around here.

If it's not an "extreme haunted house" then, no, it can't be good.

we have House of Shock, which was started by Phil Anselmo of Pantera. It gets a little Satanic at some points, but there are cash bars in the line area, as well as shock acts and concerts while you wait. It makes a lot of the top lists.

ETA: Baton Rouge has the 13th Gate, which is also really good. and also in New Orleans, we have the Mortuary, which is thought to be an actual haunted building

In SW Missouri we have "Girl Scout Land"

Girl Scout Land is a century old camp that burned down in the early 1900s leaving only the massive rock walls and chimneys of the once majestic camp lodges.

It's located on private property deep in the forest close to a fishing lake. You park at the dead end of a gravel road. People hand you candles and everyone walks about half a mile straight into the dark woods on a trail toward Girl Scout Land.

When you finally reach the ruins, you make your way to the now dry swimming pool. At the bottom of the swimming pool is a bonfire, but you can't see it when you approach the ruins because it's nearly 9 - 10 feet below ground level.

You're handed a cape and asked to sit along the edges of the old swimming pool. A few actors attempt to conjure the spirits of the girl scouts who were killed in the inferno nearly 100 years ago. They call upon spirits and even demons to beckon the girl scouts' spirits.

Everyone holds hands and participates in the annual ritual.

Without a doubt one of the most creepy and dark experiences I've ever witnessed. Truly scary.
