George Burns said: If I'd quit smoking cigars when my doctors told me to, I wouldn't have lived to bury them all.

Also I just scooped an Underground Shade based off of my local smoke shop owners recommendation

I'll let you know how it is after dinner but I've heard it's a nice medium smoke

Also

Go with a pantella or corona for size until you know what you like. Petit corona is too small IMO

But seriously, order an Ashton classic online

Cuban cigars are illegal in the States; don't be an idiot & think they are hard to get. YOU Own the Risk.

Price may, or may not have a thing to do with quality & enjoyment.

Easy to use a Zippo, if you want, just give it a few seconds after you flip the top.

Inhaling may cause a pleasing, high type situation for a few seconds, or more. Be sure you are sitting down, until you learn how your body handles inhaling.

Hopefully, you bought from La Casa del Habano to avoid counterfeit Habanos.

Petit Coronas are my favorite size, followed by Tres Petit Coronas.

Wrapper influences the flavour more with smaller sizes.

Plus they are much less likely to be fakes.

Arturo Fuente Hemingway (long story). Best cigar at a reasonable price.

They are a good value for a quality product; even the Short Story.

Are they still hard to find?

Haven't had a problem the last few years. R&R Cigars in Tuscaloosa usually has several boxes of long and short stories on hand every time I've been there. And they're usually very reasonably priced.

they were undoubtedly fakes.

I was 99% drunk, and they were a few blocks from the resort, so I caved and just wanted a late night smoke.

fwiw I knew from second 1 they were fake, just paid the 5 american dollars and went on my way.

They were kinda shitty though.

Pick smaller sizes for less chance for fakes; even better, tissue wrapped small Habanos are generally not worth the time to counterfeit.

Fonseca, for example.

If they have them, they are also inexpensive & have prolly age on them.

Machine made Habanos can also be a tremendous value & strong as death.

Lots of rec's on good sticks in this thread.

I would throw the Perdomo Champagne in the mix as a great smoke for beginners. They are hard to beat for a mellow smoke that is remarkably consistent. JMHO

R & J house of Capulet's would fall into the same territory of good solid quality cigars that don't break the bank as some of the trendy brands tend to.

I would honestly try a few sampler packs and decide what you like from there.

warning: highly addictive and costly pastime. My Daniel Marshall treasure chest made my wife shite an egg when she saw the receipt by mistake.
