Best airlines to travel

Just curious as to who your favorite airline is to fly domestically. I haven't flown in probably 7-8 years and am planning on flying from SDF (Louisville) to TPA (Tampa) on the 29th with the return trip on the 7th or 8th. I don't mind paying the extra for first class/business class if it's worth it (I know on some airlines it's not).
TIA for any suggestions.

whichever airline with the lowest fare at kayak.com is the best for me

There are non-stops from SDF to TPA and back on Southwest. I doubt there are any other airlines with that, and most, I suspect, would connect through ATL, which is sort of like connecting through Hell.
Fly SWA and pay for a good boarding position/early bird check-in so you have a chance at an exit row seat. You also get to check 2 bags free.

It sure as hell isn't United.

Southwest and possibly American, depending on where I'm going.
Not Delta.

Used to be Continental but since the buyout I don't know, thankfully I don't have to fly very much.

Best is United, no other US carrier comes close. Problem is United is also the most expensive.
Most flexible and cost efficient in most of the US is Southwest.

Looks like Delta is the cheapest for that flight. Just go with Delta. They are good....90% of the time I fly I go with Delta.

I've heard mixed stuff on Delta, but it's also been from people who flew with them awhile back. They also offer a bump to first class for like $85 bucks round trip.

Deltas ok, their problem is that their main hub, Atlanta, is a horrible airport

And anything out of here that isn't non-stop (which is 90% of flights) goes through ATL on Delta.

There's more options the further NE you travel, but from MS, AL or really anywhere that hubs ATL Delta is almost possible to avoid.
I've never had any problems with Delta personally. They let me check 2 free bags on personal travel with an active military ID.. Can't beat that.

Southwest Airlines. Easily.
Will NEVER fly Frontier again. Ever. They fricked Aggiebelle and I over both departing and returning earlier this month. Almost missed her brother's wedding because of it.

So let me ask this, if I go through Delta ATL about how much time should I shoot for when it comes to layover time to get from gate to gate? What's the main beef with ATL's airport? Size?
FWIW, I also will just have a carry on. My parents are driving down a couple days beforehand and they're taking my bags down/back.
ETA: I've looked at American and they go through Charlotte Douglas (NC). Anyone have any experience going through there?
