The painter is Danielle Duer
https://danielleduerart.com

What are your thoughts of these pieces? Do you like them? Why or why not?

I own multiple pieces from Danielle Duer and really love her melancholy style. I know it isn't for everyone, no art is.

I like her use of contrasting colors close to each other.

Definitely talented. Not my cup of tea, just cause it doesn't resonate with me. I wouldn't purchase, but I would hang the first one in my home if somebody gave it to me.

This one is my favorite out of all of them:

I hadn't seen this before but like it a lot. It was a commissioned piece done of "The Annunciation".

Doesn't move me. Number 3 came closest to moving me. I felt something from the eyes but I wasn't hypnotized. Certainly not the worst stuff I've seen.

I think that's my favorite of hers also. Weird thing is this artist is sweet as can be. Her art's always had a melancholy sadness to it but she's a doll of a person and seems positive.

Might be a way for her to express that side of herself without internalizing it?

Did a little research on her and first things first:

1. She needs to charge a helluva lot more for her originals.

BUT to do that well...

2. She needs to expand her canvas size. 11x14 for some prints and originals isn't nearly large enough these days. Not if you want to make an impression and beak into the art world and make money at it -- it's sad but bigger commands more $$$. 36x36 is better so she may be onto that now.

3. I LOVE some of it. Admittedly all of it doesn't do it for me but some of it is fantastic but such is art.

4. I really dig the eyes as well as the animals.

5. Overall I see an artist coming into her own though she still has room to push the envelope more. Even so she could easily sell for more now if she hooked up with the right people. AKA the kewl kids that could get her in.

6. I really hope she keeps going. She has a LOT of potential and I'm an art snob.

7. As others have mentioned, the use of color in the ones you selected is great. Others (I checked out her facebook too) aren't as good. Tell her to ALWAYS BE BOLD IN ART - she has something!

8/7(b). I'm assuming you know her so please tell her to keep it up. Although, I've made some critical remarks, I'm truly trying to help and be completely honest. I see talent there and I don't say that often.

I look forward to seeing more from her.

I know her only from her art. I saw a piece of hers in a house in Nashville a couple years back and was kind of thrown back by it. I got her name and contacted her and had her do a commissioned illustration. I've picked up 4 - 5 pieces of hers since then and truly love each of them.

While interacting with her through purchases she's been an absolutely lovely girl.

One of the things she does that I love is if requested (and I always do because I think it's unique to her) she'll alter and design on the actual matting to accent the painting. I love that shite. I think it looks awesome. Like in this picture.

That's pretty fantastic Stacked. We need more supporters of the Arts. Do you buy often? I know a lot of local and national artists, some too rich for my blood but brilliant nonetheless.

I really do hope she makes it and doesn't give up. We need more women artists for various reasons. They bring a totally different perspective to art, which has been a sausage fest for ages. Not that the male artists haven't been AMAZING and innovative but it's nice to see different perspectives. For example, I miss Jean-Michel Basquiat as he brought not only a black perspective but the perspective of someone who was desperately mentally ill. Another black artist who is underrated in pop opinion (though she's getting respect in the art world) is Kara Walker. But anymore, it's hard to get the public's attention no matter who you are.

Women regardless of color have been cut out of the art world til very recently. So I def. hope she finds her place since. IMO. she def. has talent and fresh ideas are needed.

The key to all arts whether painting or writing or otherwise is so often sheer perseverance.

PS. You prolly realize this from collecting real art but there's just no comparing REAL art to prints. The difference is just astounding and once you get a real painting you don't want to go back to ptints. Give me paint and/mixed media, You know, REAL ART.

From what I understand she's doing well and growing. I think she just moved out of a smaller studio and opened a much larger one in Nashville. I was invited to the opening but couldn't make it.

Prints are to originals as nudie mags are to fricking a real live girl. Both get the job done but it doesn't mean they're close to comparable to one another. To me, prints compared to originals are equally that far apart. I fricking love art, but I really fricking love art when it's by way of actual paint on canvas.

Stacked,

I'm a professional artist and personally I'm not a fan. In my opinion her style is too close to Margaret Keane's work, the artist who made "big eyes" popular in the '50s and '60s. Painting "big eyes" is popular now with artists because that genre sells, but they lack originality and more than likely the copy cat artists' artwork will decrease in value when that trend disappears over time.

That being said, I will be the first to admit that I own several pieces of art that I personally don't like but deeply value due to the artist's professional reputation and market value.

If this artist is becoming significant in the art world, I'd pay a little money to own a piece.

I can see that. This artist is waaaay more abstract than Margaret Keane though, and the "big eyes" aren't the only feature of her paintings, I'd say it isn't even the main feature, the intricate and detailed abstract line work and overall sadness is her biggest feature.

That and of course every single thing Margaret Keane ever did haunts every semblance of a dream I had hopes for being halfway good. Her shite scares the shite out of me. Like clowns to some people I suppose.
