Alright, I wish I could help you out more with cocktail-type bars. Unfortunately, I only drink beer and the occasional bourbon.

Anyway, go far away from Oak Ridge if you want to drink. Your best closest bet would be the Farragut/West Knox area, but that's mostly chains and stuff.

The Bearden area and downtown have the best bars. I don't want to give specific suggestions because I don't know your taste. Either one is 30-40 drive from Oak Ridge.

Very helpful.
I am more beer and bourbon too. Just have been craving a BW
I didn't know where to stay because I haven't worked the area yet. So I am learning the ropes.

So Oak Ridge is the suck huh? Lol figures

LINK

There is a link that another UT poster did that is a detailed write up. Off his list I like Suttree's, Barleys, Bearden Beer Market, Scruffy City, and Preservation Pub. I'll also add Twisted Mike's, Roosters, Union Jacks, and Bearden Fieldhouse that aren't downtown but are decent bars.

Yeah man, government town where everything closes early. I grew up near there and can't think of a decent bar. However, there are a few places that I would recommend. I assume you are staying at the Doubletree...there is a place across the street called Billy's Timeout Deli that has decent "fast food" and it has been open forever. I recommend the Rosemary, but I hear most of their food is good. It can get crowded at lunch and the baklava is good. Also, Big Ed's pizza is a staple but is kinda overrated, it is more about the ambiance I guess. There is another place called The Other One that is supposed to have awesome burgers but I've yet to try it. All three of those places have a decent beer selection.

Awesome. Great info

I can stay at any Hilton Co property within reason. Where would you recommend the next time? Downtown?

I have a company travel website and I am learning my ways around it to try and not stay on lame arse areas.

Same thing happened to me in Lexington. I wasn't near anything fun.

Downtown or very close for sure. I know there is a downtown Hilton but not sure where else. I've only ever stayed at the Crowne Plaza and it's nice and a great location, but I have no idea who actually owns it.

I say this as someone who loves Knoxville and would be fine with never leaving: it has a lot of shortcomings as a city its size. Food and drink are two of those but it's getting better. I try and stick to the Old City and Market Square, all the good restaurants/bars are in that area it seems.

The link Robert G gave you has bars by section of downtown. I would scan the websites of any of the bars located in Market square or the old city.

Off the top of my head, maybe Clancy's whiskey tavern or Sapphire on Gay St. Or Crown and Goose in the old city.

Oak Ridge is about 20+ minutes away from where you want to be. But ...

Big Ed's pizza is a East TN staple and always been clutch.

There's a little spot called Dean's in Jackson square where they do really good BBQ & southern cooking. Worth checking out

Gun to my head and I'm looking for a local watering hole in the city I'd probably check out Lincoln's.

Hope this helps

I personally love their pizza, but it gets talked up too much sometimes. I didn't want to ruin it for you.

They have dope t shirts for sale too.

Whitewater: Glad you enjoyed Big Ed's

If you make it out to the old city and catch the munchies, check out DaVinci's pizza. It's solid. Considerably more so when hammered.
