Louisville was named on a short list of cities that will be getting it over the next year and our Metro Council approved some ordinances tonight that will help the transition. Naturally, AT&T and Time Warner are fighting it tooth and nail.

I'm assuming the Google Fiber service is that much better that it's forcing them to work for their piece of the pie in those areas?

Chattanooga had gigabit internet deployed for several years before Google jumped on the bandwagon.

It's very popular in KC, but I haven't used them yet so I can't really help. I plan to sign up when I move back from Columbia though.

Hopefully the TN legislature will pass the law that will allow EPB to expand to neighboring areas. I'm *just* outside of the coverage area. My old man has EPB; it's fantastic.

Austin has it I believe.

Lafayette has additional fiber optic cables that gives them Internet speed 100x faster than the national average.

BellSouth has more than 11,000 strand mIles fiber throughout the Tuscaloosa-area network.

I heard the campaign driving through Chattanooga to break the barriers and allow additional municipal fiber optic cables.

Must be nice to be in a state that does shite like that.

Yes, but it's just now being constructed in Charlotte. It will serve parts of Charlotte-Mecklenberg, but not the greater Charlotte area.

The lines and fiber optic cable are expensive to lay, but they are vastly superior to existing cable infrastructure. They can carry much more information/data at a higher speed.

TWC can basically go up to 300Mbps, Fiber can do a 1Gbps.

TWC and other providers hate Google Fiber b/c they can't match the speeds with existing lines and they would have to spend a lot of $ to compete.
