Headed there on a family vacation in late July. No real plans, just going for a week of R&R. Have house rented right on beach

Anything there I need to do beside plant my fat arse in the sand? I was thinking of taking my bike to pedal around on during the mornings. Are the streets there crowded? Even paved good enough to ride a bike?

TIA

I really love Dauphin Island, but have only gone on day long trips.

Its nice and shady, with lots of old Pines and live oaks, perfect for bike riding.

Out by the fort, a deep channel comes right up against the bank there, have seen many dolphins and small whales close enough to almost touch them with a fishing rod.

There are some Indian midden mounds there, and I imagine you could find a few artifacts without looking too hard.

There is a Marine biology thing there that you can tour, but I never did that.
It's pretty quiet and laid back overall.

The Bird Sanctuary has done cool trails to hike, and secluded beaches.

Took a few family vacations there back in the ................... 1950's. Is the Holiday Inn with the iconic old HI sign still there?

Fort Gaines is nice; they have a website, if you have an interest:

Not a resort commercialized area like Gulf Shores-Orange Beach it is much more laid back, but not a lot to do and see besides the beach. If you like peace and quiet you'll probably find what you're looking for.

Yes there are plenty of paved streets and you'll be able to ride that bike
