I live in Mobile, but my dad and other family live in Fairhope. I think that it is a great place to live. If I wasn't so entrenched in Mobile with kids' school/sports/etc., I would move there in a heartbeat.

Yea, it seems a great place if your married and starting the family. Is the public school system good in Baldwin County or do you have to go with Bayside Academy?

The schools are just fine. I think Fairhope is an excellent place to live. Did it myself for awhile, and will do it again before too long.

I thought living on the bay in Point Clear was the apex of Eastern Shore life?? Why go to Fairhope if living on the bay is an option?

FWIW, I'm very jealous! Hope to be in the "cool crowd" on the Eastern shore someday. :OTEasternShoreBallin: someday

Eastern Shore ppl, yall should frame this for the home office: Cool map of mobile bay

It is. If he is living on the bay in Point Clear, then he is probably renting. Houses on the bay in Point Clear are insanely expensive.

I know that Mobile has a reputation for being tough to integrate into unless you know a bunch of people here, but Eastern Shore isn't like that at all. They are much more open to "new blood" moving into town. If you are a cool person, you'll make friends fast.

I have a small pic that is very similar to that, only not so busy, hanging in my guest bathroom.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions. As I said, I love it over there. Still toying with the idea of pulling up stakes and moving over there.

One more thing... When I was growing up, you could go to public schools, but most people I know go to Bayside or Christ the King. Very few in public schools. Probably has more to do with status than education. I pay ~$30k/year for my kids to go to private school in Mobile and I am quite certain that it is more so my wife gets to see her high school buddies in car pool line than it is the education.

Thanks man. My dad grew up in Mobile and my uncle still lives down that way.

I was in the Fairhope store downtown this summer, and I met this beautiful blonde working there. I regret not asking her to lunch or a beer. She was a dime fo sho..

Cheers!

You are dead on. I'm getting married and we get to live in the in-laws bay house for a few years while we gain a foothold and save for a house. :titties:

Damn... I love the sunsets from Eastern Shore.

And, I would bet anything that I either know your in-laws or I know one of those neighboring wharfs.

Looks like I can see the condos on Ft. Morgan Rd on the horizon, so I suppose you are south of the hotel. You are one lucky mofo to get to live there as you save for a house.

BTW, I did the same after I graduated college, except my old man actually lives there, so I had to dial back my behavior while I lived over there.

I graduated from Daphne..parents still live there. Public schools are good, many good restaurants, and lots to do if you play golf or enjoy the water. Would move back there in a second if I could with my job.

I lived in Fairhope for a few years and still go down there once a month or so. Its the best place in the state if you ask me.

Its a great place for a family....Especially a family with young kids. However, if you're single and in your 20's, then it can leave a lot to be desired. The bar scene is meh and is filled with a lot of 35+ drinkers. There's talent walking around town, but they usually has a ring on and the single ones are few and far between. Just go into CK Collection, say you want to buy something for your mom or sister, and try to hit on one of those girls.

Might be a little too slow a pace for a single guy in his 20s. It would be perfect for a married guy in his 20s, though.
