It's because those psycho MADD moms wanted the whole state to go dry after the Carrollton bus crash. But failed to do so. Thank God.

Tennessee has a few. I think Lynchburg of all places might be dry.

MS has several. Really strange to go from LA where liquor is for sale anywhere, almost anytime, to state with such weird blue laws. MS has certain counties that don't sell alcohol at all, but the ones that do can only sell anything above beer at a liquor store, and those stores must close at 10pm. Nothing can be sold on Sunday, unless that's changed recently.

Alabama has one completely dry county (Clay).

There are several others that are moist, where sales are permitted in cities that have voted for alcohol sales, but not the unincorporated areas of the county.

My hometown did not legalize alcohol sales until 2006, and the county itself it still dry.

Arkansas still has several, including the one I live in.
However, beer is just 10 mins. up the highway across the county line. Have to go a little farther for a sure enough liquor store.

Got some relatives who defend the idea of dry counties while at the same time calling themselves "small government conservatives"

Cracks me up every time.

We used to sit at a gas station just inside our dry county line and watch all the staunch baptists who kept voting the county dry pull thru the drive thru beer store just on the other side of the line.

Not sure which county it is in Mississippi but there used to be one that wouldn't even allow trucks carrying alcohol to travel through it.

Texas doesn't just have dry counties, but dry municipalities and neighborhoods. It can be wet on one side of the road and dry on the other.
