Amazon collects 6% in Kentucky. I'm sure the State has a special deal with Amazon since they're building a $1.5 billion hub at Northern Kentucky's Cincinnati International Airport.

In Alabama, sales tax was added back last fall. November 1.
Here's what's in it for Amazon. They collect 8% (sales tax here across the state is around 9%, with the state, county, and city splitting it someway). They submit the 8% by a certain deadline, and the state will reimburse them 2%.
So, effectively by charging sales tax, amazon has increased revenues in Alabama by 2%.
Do note that the added sales tax only applies to items sold by Amazon, not a 3rd party. There are many 3rd party sellers on Amazon.

Already charging tax in Alabama, but I use Amazon and never have to pay that tax because of a giant loophole, Amazon only adds that tax to items AMAZON SELLS and PACKAGES, the VAST majority of items you can buy on Amazon are not sold and packaged by Amazon, so simply buy from the other party that's listed on most every item sold.

Is it really that damned hard to read the entire thread? Again:
Amazon gets 2% of the tax collected, not 2% of the item cost. A $1,000 TV is $80 tax. Amazon gets to keep $1.60 a .16%
Brick and mortar stores in the state get to do the same thing.
