The Alabama Senate has approved a bill that would do away with the requirement for probate judges to sign marriage licenses.

The bill comes as a few probate judges in the state continue to refuse to issue marriage licenses to anyone so they do not have to give them to gay couples.

I hope this trend continues. Alabama will be gaining on VT in the Free State Project!

Clothes are optional in Vermont. Of course, it's so cold that everyone wears them.

I've said for a long time that government should not be involved with marriage due to the association between religion and marriage in many cases.

I thank God that we have a legislature that has solved the problem of our failing schools, lack of healthcare, crumbling infrastructure, opioid addiction ect, to tackle the tough issues this great State faces.

The problem is, the government provided financial incentives for marriages.

I'm fine with the government giving marriage licenses, but it shouldn't be based on any religious ideologies.

The government shouldn't use the term marriage. They should have legal unions that would cover the stuff for insurance, retirement, etc that marriage currently provides. Let the churches keep the term marriage and just get the frick out of it on their side.

This really shouldn't be an argument anymore. Who gives a shite if a couple same sex people want to get hitched to each other. They aren't ruining marriage when you have someone like Kardashian that use it as a viewer booster for a show and get divorced or annulled within a few months.

Don't back down. There's not a valid reason why the state can't keep calling it a marriage.

Would you be in favor of government eliminating all of the current benefits that married couples have?

Don't watch the show and don't know much about them but Kim is still married to her first husband. The mom was married to Jenner for a long time and got married well before the show. I believe one sister was married before the show and got divorced but it wasn't like it was just for the show.

And you just made me defend the Kardashians...

Yes. There should be no reason the government treats married people differently than single people.
