Alabama Fraternity Advice

Would like to get the SECRant's thoughts on fraternities at Alabama. I have a friend who will be attending in the fall and he is interested in pledging. Which ones are "wild", which ones are "elite", etc? Which ones would you be comfortable sending your kid to?

You won't go wrong with majority of them. The big thing is to try to get in touch with rush chairs quickly because the rush events started this past weekend.

All of the "top" are also considered "wild" so the two go hand in hand.
Other decent ones:
Pi Kappa Phi
Beta
Sigma Chi
Phi Delt
Kappa Sig
..and that's about all I remember, I'm sure there's some I forgot.

Meh, if you're at least average looking you'll do well with any of them. If you're a member of one of the Old Row fraternities you can clean up in this area. I'd caution your friend about jumping into rush right away. In fact, I think rush is best treated like a star athlete. I'd have him "redshirt" his freshmen year and give himself a year to check out each fraternity and make actual friends before rushing.

I agree with all this outside of Pi Kappa Phi. I'd throw ATO, Pike, and Theta Chi in as good ones too.
A lot of the top ones are hard to get bids to unless you know someone already involved with the fraternity.

Fraternity's run alabama social life, or at least are a very large majority of it. DKE, SAE, Sigma Nu, and KA are the top ones IMO

Rush as many houses you can and don't accept the first bid you get. Bids arent hard at all to get as long as you get along with the guys and the rush chairman likes you. Dont get discouraged if you have a shitty experience at a house.
