Probably not bad for the roadside and towing, but that's pretty commonly covered for a couple extra bucks on your insurance.
I guess if you're looking for trip planning and can't be bothered by going on the internet it would be cool. I'm personally not a member.

Saved my arse and life a few times. Was cruising down the highway for the first time when I was 20, nearly ran out of gas. Went to a pay phone, called them, they showed up at 3 AM with enough gas to get me to where I needed to go.
It's really useful, man.

One of those things where if you need it, you're glad you had it. Membership is cheap, so not a big deal to pay it.
You could also get road side assistance from your insurance company but they're pretty anal if you have to use it I hear.

The AAA card more than pays for itself when you count in all that.

I think I had to use them something like 5 times over three or four years. They really helped me out.

Just adk yourself what one tow at 3am in the rain will cost you and decide if that $52 a year is worth it.

Yes, if you have teenage drivers. I had 3 female drivers in high school at one time and someone was always locking keys in the car or getting stranded with a flat tire or something. have since dropped

I bought the basic membership 6 or 7 years ago. Engine blew on the interstate and tow truck came, said I could get a 3 mile tow with basic. I had to pay the difference to get to a town 20 miles away.
I upgraded after that to the membership that had a 100 mile tow benefit. Well worth the cost as I had another vehicle that needed a tow last year.
I have used the card on lodging discounts and car rentals and definitely recommend this to friends.

My grandparents pay for my membership (as a gift I guess). I've used the hotel discount a couple of times. When I went to Nashville this past weekend for my friend's wedding I saved $40 on my hotel room because of it. I'd get it if you travel a lot.

I am currently insured by AAA, and a prerequite to get coverage is to have a membership. AAA has very good rates but the membership is really a waste because most other insurance companies have the same options included in insurance packages for a much lesser cost. The value of the insurance plus the AAA membership is cheaper in my case than any other option.
ETA...the discounts some places offer is a great perk...

Yep, Last week my starter went out and I was parked in of all places a Firestone parking lot. They wanted to charge me $416(260+tax just for parts) to change a starter that was sitting right towards the front of the engine and easy to get to. I said frick that and went online and joined AAA, regular benefits kick in immediately. If I would have just called a regular tow company the tow would have been $100+, A discounted tow through my Amex was $60.
The regular rate for AAA is something like $61 with the enrolment fee for one person for a year. I did some research and found a deal where I paid $47 for coverage for 2 people. After $47 for AAA and $140 for a starter with a lifetime warranty from Autozone, I was back on the road less then hour after getting back to my driveway. Triple AAA pays for itself even if you only have to use it once every other year, not to mention the peace of mind and some of the discounts that they provide.

If you plan on taking at least one multi state road trip per year, yes.
