Think we'll try to get a legit starting type player or shop the waiver wire?

They already signed DT Tony McDaniel.

Thanks. I'll go into hibernation for another month now

To be fair, McDaniel doesn't really fit the "legit starting player" category that you're talking about. So it's a legit question, IMO. I don't think we do though. Maybe sign 1 more rotational type player there, if even that. Think we go into camp with what we have though and hope for the best.

Fairley and Rankins both play the same spot. Neither is a nose. In base sets they would have split snaps, now Rankins will likely just get a majority of those. On pass rushing downs they'll have to find someone else though I expect it'll just be Onyemata.

If Hightower were still available I would be all for signing him and trading Ingram to the Jets for Wilkerson. But he is more of a defensive end than tackle. Tackle wise it might just be better to wait for some cuts closer to the start of the season.

Wasn't Rankins the starter last year until he got hurt and then Fairley stepped in?

Let's not forget about Tyeler Davison who had a decent rookie season.

Do you mean in Training camp? Didn't Rankins get hurt in training camp?

Thought it was preseason.

If it was it was very early I don't remember seeing him in any games

I thought he played in the NE preseason game. Anyway, he got hurt in practice last year August 15th.
My point is I think he was our starter last year prior to injury and is this year. I know they rotate but I think we will be ok.

This is actually 100% correct.
People tend to forget that. They are too focused on that sky that is falling.

It will be a combination of Rankins, Onyemata, Tyeler Davison and McDaniel. Cam Jordan will probably move inside on some 3rd and long with Okafor and Kikaha on the outside.

No. Rankins was hurt in training camp like most of the Saints playmakers

Time for Rankins to step and prove his worth as a 1-12.

He did play the NE game in preseason, but he was not our starter then or when he came back.
Fairley started all 16 games and Rankins started 0. Fairley played a higher number of snaps on a per game basis (though it wasn't a wide margin).
While I have no doubt Rankins will step up this year and hopefully we'll be okay between him and McDaniel, but losing Fairley is still a big blow.

Yeah NF started 7 games before SR came back and had established himself. NF played great last year and no doubt will be missed.
Have to keep positive they will fill the gap.
